The 2012 Summer Comp Entry Thread
Hydro Hellsing Hydro Hellsing is offline 13-07-2012, 01:29 AM

First off let me remind everybody that this is a UN-official Competition, that means any questions are to be directed at me, Markoboko, or Martez. The Admin aren't involved in this comp aside from the hilarious banner lol.

Songs are to be uploaded to the artist pages with the download disabled, post a link in this thread and I'll grab the track and upload it to the comp page, if your worried about me missin a track send me a pm as well.

The d/ls are to be disabled for entrants who wish to keep their songs safe in case they'd like to sell or do something official with them later on however, if you'd like your songs to be available for download your more than welcome, it's not a rule it's an option to help protect your music, So here are the Entry rules.

1.Any Genre welcome...

2.Instrumentals welcome if the title has a relevance to Summer and or heat i.e. my "Boiling Point" Instrumental...

3.Songs with words must refer to the Summer ONLY ...

4.Songs length must be longer than 3:30 minutes with a max of 70 minutes...

5.Song Previews are welcome as long as they're more than half the length of the song and over the 3:30 minute mark...

6.Collaborations ARE allowed, including having one person produce the other Engineer etc. It's up to the entrants to decide who gets the prize...

7.Songs will be judged based on overall sound quality/Engineering as well as lyricism/songwriting...

8.The submission deadline is JULY 31ST...

9.The judging will begin the day of the submission deadline and will last a full week, judging will be a team effort between Marko, Martez and I, between the 3 of us we cover quite a few Genre's/Sub-Genre's so I'm not gonna tolerate any whining about Genre favoring or comp rigging.

The rules are simple, I'll have pics of the prize up soon and you'll know what that's all about quickly enough, if I've forgotten anything or anyone has questions feel free to ask.

The Prize: 96 Inch x 52 Inch Printed Phoenix Bird Kite (L x W)

Good Luck! Comp Page: Mp3unsigned Unofficial Summer Song Contest 2012 Page

AND THE WINNER IS: SCOTT SLATER - SOUNDS OF THE SUMMER

THE RUNNERS UP:

2ND PLACE: HMC INTERNATIONAL - CARVED OUT OF SUNLIGHT

3RD PLACE: GRAVITYSLIP - HOT SAND

Scott Slater will be sent a message for shipping info so I can get the prize goin his way and to the other contestants you made some mighty fine music and it was actually a close call between a few people...

Wasn't the biggest competition in the world but I think it went smoother than most LOL, now on to the Rob Papen contest...

Despite the "any genres welcome" statement, some folk might think that the "strengths" and/or "musical preferences" of the judges lies in electronic music and therefore an electronic music track has the best chance of winning.

Can the judges comment on this?

Andy

Hi!

Great to see this comp is up and running. Just thought I'd mention that a day or two ago Amadeus mentioned 20 days before the next comp starts, which makes it a little closer to three weeks away...

I'm staying out of the running of this, but also thought I should mention that I think you meant to say entrants should upload to their artist pages with "downloads enabled", otherwise you won't be able to grap a copy for the comp page.

Good luck with the comp everyone!

Darth.

Andy read section 8

Does the title really have to contain summer elements? I've already named mine and it's not really a summer theme... all tho I feel the track is.

Darth... You don't need to have them enabled to download....reason why I upload clips.

Just because one has recently been creating music in the electronic genre does not mean one has always been strictly into the genre and only listens to/knows this kind of music. Please have some trust in the judges. If we wanted to judge electronic music only, we'd say so or we would not accept the role.

Naw I can still grab the tracks even though they're disabled, so yeah everybody disable the downloads when you upload unless you want to give free d/l, it's an option...

As for Andy's question I could have sworn literacy was apart of Forum life, Marko, Marty, Ricky and everyone else who would comment I'll say once more all questions related to judging are to be ignored, I stated the process and it's as simple as that, we're not interested in the genre's uploaded, we're interested in the sound quality/writing/lyrics, those are the only things that will be paid attention to by me personally, this comp is for exposure with the bonus of a prize, don't take the fun out of it for other people...

I second that, even though I'm not judging. I may be a raver but I'm also a rocker, and love classical, hiphop, funk, blues, some pop... er... not much jazz or C&W now that I think of it, but... you get the point. No-one I've ever met only likes one genre of music if they are being totally honest.

Ricky - so that's why you only upload clips. I had assumed your record contract said no full tracks may be uploaded anywhere or something. Shame really, because I'm always getting into your tracks when they end too early...

So... people can easily grab copies even if download function is disabled. Hmm... Naughty, naughty... verrry naughty. I'll turn a blind eye this time (especially since it's for the comp), but I'll talk to Amadeus about stepping up the security measures.

Thanks for the heads-up guys!

Could you be more specific about the entry deadline?
Can we have an actual date so there's no confusion?

Darth, basically if your using a flash player there are plenty of media programs that can grab a download of any streamed media audio or video.
Doubt Dave will be able to anything about that at all.

Thanks Craig,

I know. There are a lot of ways of doing a lot of things. If a dude want an apple, he can go into a grocery store and stick it up his sweater, or pay for it.

When users select "disable downloads" it is because they don't want anyone to download the track. Their message is plain and simple.

We wouldn't want any of our users to think that the disable function is essentially pointless (i.e. the grocer is blind) and furthermore that we publicly condone the circumvention of a song's disabled status.

I tried to be subtle, but my subtlety probably landed like a tonne of bricks.

With that, I'll leave you guys to it... don't mind my ramblings... and again, good luck! To both sides of the comp.
