Gaming Soundtrack Competition

Ok, there has been a lot of discussion on how this comp should be organised. Lot's of different ideas but in the end we want this to be open to everyone and not overly restrictive.

The Brief
Create a soundtrack for a game. It can be any for genre and any type of game or gaming platform (eg iPhone/Android, desktop, arcade, games console like X-Box, PS etc).

Entries must be accompanied by a descriptive paragraph explaining the genre, game type and gaming platform. Help listeners to visualise the game that the music has been written for.

The Rules:
- One entry per artist, this can be made up of a number of different parts if necessary but please ensure that they are all on a single MP3.
- All tracks are to be uploaded to artists own pages.
- Original works only
- No unauthorised samples
- No remixes
- Unless decided otherwise by participants on this thread, winners can be decided by public vote after the competition has closed. This can be done through a forum poll.

The winning artist will have a slide promoting them and their entry on the homepage for one month (this will also be promoted in the forum until another sponsor is secured for the next competition).

As a lyricist, I think it's fairly obvious where I stand on this question, but I remember Procol Harem's Whiter Shade of Pale makign a huge impact on me, where I was forever trying to "get" the exact meaning of the lyric,...turns out that the band never knew what it all meant and it was just mostly gobbledegook, which just happened to resonate with many...that is quite a pertinent point though (Kelly and Superhuman's viewpouint notwithstanding that is) that it's what a lyric means TO YOU, not to the person who wrote it...if it's about grief to the artist, doesn't necessarily translate as that to the listener and vice versa but unless it's a specific protest song type of thing, what does that matter? We are not trying to influence others, just to express something to music and often, it's the music that influences me in the first place.

I can't imagine Eric using a lyric from anyone else...his stuff is intensely personal but can you imagine half the songs you hear being as popular without some kind of lyric? degs for instance, is often being told...this will be great with some vocals...and they have been right more often than not....not ALL song lyrics are needed but certainly not ALL music is best without lyrics.

My take, anyway.

My fav so far of the comp - Hope its not against the spirit of the comp to comment on production but this track was actually so impressive it seemed a shame not to mention how (in my humble opinion) it could be sooooo much more

*When does the deadline for submitting the tracks end?


EDIT: lol.. You inspired me to go and mix and I've just uploaded the pre-final mix.. Worked a couple of hours and stayed up 'til just after 6am working on it.. Will have the final here soon and will be officially in the competition!

It's here! It's finally here! The final master has been uploaded! BUT.. I changed the title of the mix to 'Sovereign Renegade'.. Hope y'all enjoy it!

Sovereign Renegade (Choice of Life) - Game Competition Mix

STORYLINE:
OPENING SCENE
The year is 4857... Future tech cities seem eerie with no life, no lights, no movements... A battle? A plague? A civil war? What happened here? - In a half destroyed home is a child.. Lonely.. Crying.. Memories surface.. One world. Always seeking new ways to "better the planet".. Did they go too far? - You are T'Zara.. She is against the research. She fought many battles.. Was injured to near death, but still.. She fights on. Until one day, IT GOES TOO FAR.. Her final battle leads to a choice. Leave the planet with refugees and watch it be destroyed? Or risk eveything, and save the planet. She chooses to risk it all. But this choice also has a steep price. 90% or more of the world's population would be lost in the process. This is her final fight.. These are her final breaths of life..

ENDING SCENE(music):
She is laying on the ground deathly wounded.. Screen slowly fades to white as she draws her last breath, and she knows she made the right choice.. The planet is safe....


EDIT: The reason I changed the title: Sovereign - "being above all others in character, importance, excellence, etc. "; Renegade - "a person who deserts a party or cause for another. ".. I thought this was more fitting for the character of the storyline which is what the mix is based off of..

**NOTE: Seems my FLS program is messing up.. Any long sound clips regardless if my own or default cuts volume up and down in the middle of the sound.. The ending has a slight volume variance with a little clicking sound.. Hold off on putting it officially in until I figure out what's going on.. And if anyone has any ideas, pleeaassee let me know.. Thanks ---I have determined the the FL Studio file has become corrupt somehow.. Like, the actual save file for the mix... I've shortened the fade out at the end as a temporary fix.. This really sucks.. Doesn't do it on the other save files... O.o *Go ahead and 'officially' add it in.. *---**

I have one too but as the last game I played was ecco "ye olde" dolphin circa 1992 with my daughter I'll probably be laughed outta court. But folk should never be afraid of trying something. I had a little fun today putting it together anyway.
