Promo video Comp!

Video Promo Comp

As you may or may not know, we will be relaunching the site with a new facelift towards the end of this month Part of this new look will involve a video player that will appear on the new artists pages. The default video feed will be from our own youtube channel and will feature a promotional video for the site. This video will appear on every artists page across the site (unless they switch the feed to their own youtube music videos).

As you know, every video needs a soundtrack and that is what this competition is all about!

The idea:

Users get to nominate either 2 of their own complete tracks OR a 60 second mash-up of highlights to a pool which can be cut, spliced, diced, mashed and mixed together to create a multi-genre backing track for a site promotional video.

How it Works:
  • Anyone can enter tracks to the pool
  • Any site member can splice a backing track together using a selection of tracks from the pool
  • Users can only enter their own original musical works
  • Entries are restricted to either 2 entire tracks or one 60 second mashup of various track highlights (fade in/out between track cuts is fine)
  • Entries should be loosely genre specific
  • Lets keep the track length to 30 seconds
  • Tracks can only be submitted by their creators - if you really want to use an another artists track then please contact them and ask them to post it!
  • The spliced backing track should represent each of the big genres
  • The winning track will be chosen by Admin and the video creator.

The Small Print
  • By entering a track to this competition, artists agree to allow other site users to use their music as part of a promotional backing track for the site.
  • Tracks entered cannot be used elsewhere or for any other purpose without the express permission of the track creator (copyright holder).
  • Artists agree to allow the site to use their music in the promotional video
  • The promotional video and backing music will be used to promote the site across multiple platforms such as Facebook & Twitter etc. Artists who submit their tracks accept that the final mix will be hosted on youtube and can be easily embedded into 3rd party sites and blogs.
  • All tracks that make it into the chosen backing track will be fully referenced and credited on the video (nice bit of extra promotion for all involved)

Unfortunately the budget is completely shot with the site development so all we can offer is that the tracks that feature in the winning mashup will be properly credited and will be put on front of a lot of eyeballs and ear holes.
Anyway, it should be a lot of fun too - let's hope we can get as many of you on board as possible.

PM Amadeus for upload details

If you have any questions at all, please post them up below.

Artists own works as per the above but you could always email the artist and ask them to post their own track

OK, has anyone else been able to enter the competition? When I click on the link that Amadeus posted, it takes me to a submission by Joseph Rodriguez, but I don't see where to submit one anywhere.

The first 2 tracks are of good quality but have I missed the point? ...Honey Thick's track is longer than 60 seconds and Joe's track is only 30 seconds long so could have added a second track....or am I missing something here as I presumed the 'music' of the entry was to be 60 seconds in length, whether it be 2 x 30 secs or a 60 secs compilation.

Just asking

Andy

I'm with Andy here also confused a bit, I think they are meant to be 30 seconds long, but by saying 2 entire tracks it implies complete songs. Perhaps I am just being a bit thick

You can either enter either 2 full tracks or one 60 second mix track comprising a selection of best bits from numerous tracks. It all depends on whether you have the time etc to cut and splice - also, you everyone the chance to play with all of the entries and create their own mashup entry (if they want to).

You can upload tracks already done by you TO BE PART OF THE PROMO TRACK as either two full songs or several songs in a 60 second track!

The ACTUAL PROMO TRACK will only be 30 seconds long!

To give a scenario, let's say I (Tedd-Z), Superhuman and LIQUID upload two full tracks of our own work each, and AndyStokes, Joseph Rodriguez and HoneyThick upload one 60-seconds-long track each, comprising clips from several of their own tracks!

Essence comes along and creates an MP3Unsigned Promo track that's 30 seconds long, using a section from one of my full tracks, a section from one of Superhuman's full tracks, a section from AndyStokes's 60-seconds-long track and a section from HoneyThick's 60-seconds-long track!

Does that explain it better?

Default it seems to me...

Boss,

If ya need a backing track for a site promo video then do it.

Permission to use tracks/bits on mp3unsigned? - ask and surely it will be granted.

Your expectations are paramount and override anyone else's ideas.

End of story I reckon.

OK if ya want a competition then that's another thing entirely

Andy (not trying to be negative but thinking what amadeus is wanting to promote the site)

The nice thing about making a competition out of it though is that users get to put something into the new site. That's the point really, for the promo to be user generated and the community to be involved. This way the core users get a shot at something concrete that will feature across the site. At the very least it should be fun too
