Cumbaquê was formed in 2001 by Bruno Couto (vocal and guitar), Paulin (drums), Skilo (percussion), André Lima keyboards) and Felipe Fantoni (bass). An open mind sound that receives different influences: from empty to full, from black to white, from sweet to bitter, from experimentalism to pop. Rock goes thru samba and electro, the lyrics go from poetic to social and political content.

The band's beginning was marked by lots of shows in bars of Belo Horizonte and music festivals that resulted in some awards like the 1st place in 2002 FUMI (Independent University Music Festival of Juiz de Fora city) and 3rd place in "Mostra Cauê de Arte Popular 2002", a popular art festival of Minas Gerais. In 2003, Bruno Couto received an award as a revelation songwriter of Minas Gerais, a Brazilian state which has the same size as France. In 2006 Cumbaquê was invited to perform in important events, like SESC Pompéia "Prata da Casa" project in São Paulo city, which reveals new music talents, and FIT BH 2006, traditional international theatre festival which takes place in Belo Horizonte. |
