As a result of a conversation on another thread I have decided to start off a set of links that can get you music geniuses (or is that 'genii'...lol) frothing at the mouth...THEY ARE FREE AND MANY ARE AVAILABLE FOR MAC & WINDOWS

Here is a starter list...but I particularly recommend No 1...It's why I put it at 1. It is imaginative, humourous and can yield brilliant results...The Delay Lama ROCKS

A FEW FREE VST to help you along as well…

1. FREEVERB if you don't have a good reverb or are confused with the one you have, this is easy to use.
2. Spin Audio Great value plugins, have 2 free. VST to DX wrapper
3. MDA VST Plugins....This free pack includes a FREE COMPRESSOR. Copy the .DLL files to your \VSTPlugins  folder.
4. Specter A DirectX based audio-spectrum visualizer.
5. Tap Tempo - You can use this to tap on the space bar to work out the B.P.M / TEMPO of a song.
6. Guitar FX Guitar FX software. Free fully functional demo. Turn your pc in-to a guitar fx pedal.

I have the 'hip hop' and 'keyboard' plugsound modules and they are ALL absolute class...a total recommendation. I must admit I'm still saving for volumes 2 and 5...but I'll get there.

I know its not free but very nice vsti
