La Voce (Dance Mix)
Well I can say that after listening to the later Ambient version of this track, that I much prefer that version to this, although the same sublime singing is present on this track. I find that the keyboards which play the main theme sound a bit cheesy in places, and the beat is just too busy for my liking. You were right to have doubts about including this as it was, but it is still in essence a great tune, so for that I'll give you a rate.
I like this mix too, though I can see why you felt it didn't quite fit with the feel of the rest of the album. Strong beats and good catchy melodies, makes for a nice dance track. Rated. Craig
Hey, I like this a lot. The voice is so dreamy and I tend to be drawn to that kind of stuff. I enjoy the mysterious effect of the sounds all put together. The energy adds a very nice touch to it giving me a well rounded feeling. Makes me want to just dance madly in my livingroom... !!!
Nice piece, im slowly working my way through your stuff there is so much of it, this has a nice haunting feel to it kinda like "this mortal coil" rated
ok synth to start the track but then the rest of the synths are all sweet. Melody lines start ok but then they evolve into sum brilliant lines. And Mel's voice fading in and out is really cool stuff. wow there might not be lyrics for the track but that voice is so niiice with the track. a real nice filler with all those insane effects. where do u think of these melody lines 1:22 is nice as the synths change keeping the same line. Deff high energy track, especially with all those drums and percs goin off in all directions.2:35 has sweet drum part. Also that really fast piano part really adds sum nice energy to the track too. Well i enjoyed this track, sry on the late comment on this one too! Rated! Matt
The vocal line makes it for me, brilliant Melinda! And Ricky, I've got too much to learn about programming loops to say anything. I liked the heavier beats in this song better, maybe because of the contrast with Melinda's notes.
Oh nice! I love those Ooos. It gave it that middle eastern vibe and I REALLY like that little synth solo about a quarter of the way through. Melinda, you REALLY do have a voice for trance/techno, I must say. Very enjoyable! To be honest, I didn't really like the beginning part with the synth and the entrance of the hihats, but then it just kicked up a big notch and rocked big time! I just really like it now. I don't think I can get over those ooos because of how well they fit and with those effects too and crazy little effects going in the background. You two make a great pair. Nice eerie dance music!! :D Rated!!
indeed kinda retro sounding synths, and the melody reminds me of something, cant figure out what exactly though, Great work with the beats and percussions, not to mention the vocal... melinda's opera-ish vocal presentation tames the intrumental beast underneath it with subtleness, and passion. Good work you two
very original nice piano sound - rather rapid playing! Sounds quite retro in a way, probs the synth stabs. Nice melodie with a good hook. Nice layering of the vocals. Great vabrato in the too, I love the opratic style vocals, suits the mix perfectly. The mix sounds sweet, i wouldnt edit it at all. The beats are solid and roll really well. This is almost mancini - tamed a little - WHIP! Great work both!
Back for another listen and sounds even better than before! Dropped a rate off:)
Back again. It must be true that Ricky never sleeps!!! Keep em coming m8.....top sound indeed.
Well done... this sounds big, i get the hi-engery feel now :) Also has a theatrical feel.
Gee, people wonder why you guys are getting so many rateings, nothing to do with pimping just qaulity. Ricky's work is shining, and Mel, well Mel's got the best voice, and its being treated with great care in the mix. Truely loved it guys Steve
Hi you two. What a team in the making. Mel your vocals are sublime. Quite eerie in a sense.A tad fast for me to get my winkle pickers around !! But quality rules on this one.Nice one.Rated. Take Care Andy :)
Jeez Ricky That is the melody more or less exactly to Thta sunglasses track which happens to be one of my fav track! lol This track is pumping bud! Mels vox are sounding sweet as usual! Its really operatic of her but jeez she can hit a note and hold it alright! lol Ahh the perc lines! Swet i dunno how you do it! I know its one shot but you seem to get some sweet lines with them, good programming there Ricky! Just after 3 mins when the breakdown came in was sweet with the vox and piano! Some nice filtering work too! Well its more of a change for you Ricky but honestly i like it! All the best you 2! Marty
i do notice differences now... subtle ones... i like it, but it seems fast to me but I'm so not an authority on Dance stuff... (actually not an authority on anything) i can't move my feet that fast... seriously though the mix and the voice of Mel is great and the instruments are super too... reaching for button :-)
HAHAHAAHAAAA NEW SNARE TONE IS GREATTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!! Just as well, 13th is over for me!!! Well done, ricky!
I think it was my little cheap headphones i use a t work... the bass has way more bottom now... i was just getting a thin sound... great track :-)
Another great tune from the dynamic duo! :) Well done!
sorry, folks, a bit of cold water here, maybe it's the Feb13th thing, but 2 things stand out.....Mel's angelic voice (bloody ell, can you really hit it soooooo sweet?) and the inappropriate snare........the snare rolls suggest an ?African? kind of groove , or SouthIndian drums they beat when they hav their fire-walking festivals....anyway I think you need to consider using some such exotic snare (pleasepleasePLEASE consider the southindian drums, not tabla but the horizontal one they hit with sticks)....it'll give such a groove it's like hell's fury unleased, then the angelic voice would have context. Of course, you know I only say all this cos I love ya, yes ? :)
another shocker you two. really really really stunning. Ricky i see you replaced Mel with an angel singing on this one. but all sweet talk aside, this is trully a top production again. i didn't have a problem with the bass at all (as mark holley noted) i love 1:17 when it hit in to that high pitched sound and then drops back to support the vox. vox may not be worded but i think it's better this way, those notes are struck flawlessly. another brilliant work!
yes the intro is similar to that sunglasses tune to which id never heard before...but this could be a good soundtrack for a movie here you both have knocked it off as I could see this as a sorta racing car chase or summit in a movie...nice production again ricky....and nice vox...in the mould of the backing vox pink floyd used often..has potential so good luck to you both and its glad to be back on the boards..been a long time away...rascals rating for this.
Interesting sound guys...melinda's vocal sounds great as the song title suggests...cool intro(reminded me of The Cure for some reason). Like the chord progression. Nice work..Martin
only a little similar to the sunglasses tune... it's not the same chord progression actually at all... this track has a melodic minor in the second chord in where the sunglases song does a straight drone in the right hand for each chord change.. in this, the right hand does a different pattern when the bass note changes... it's just similar in rhythmic pattern i think... does sound good guys... was surprised there wasnt a thumpin bassline... maybe it's these cheapo headphones at work - I'll listen again at home tonite!
Swirling intro and great beats, then it runs into mel's lush vocal, heard this a few times now mate...and it sounds like you made the vocal more prominent since my last listen?...loving it mate. Double hit from me.
i wear my sunglasses at night, So i can so i can watch you weave then breath your story lines the opening melody reminds me a lot of that track. im digging the vocal stylings of realshanti again. rate from me
hey good track. should be blasted out in a club i think:) good vibe Nathalie
Feeling the vibes of this track, hard hitting drums and i agree with saph that the vocals have a eastern vibe which is hot. Nice tune
Like it already. Rated. The mix of vocal style with the feel of the music is quite interesting, I think. Not 'totally standard'. Not 'what I expected', but I like it and it works.
Love the start to this track. The music reminds me of BlutEngel, which is always good. Melindas vocals are excellent very atmospheric. Really like the direction of this track, probs my joint favourite of your tracks so far. ONAGER
Like those vocals ;) No bass yet, I can imagin, this will evolve into a powerfull piece of music.
Another stunner in the making. Bloody powerful sound this. Melinda reminds me of Essence on this........nothing wrong with that of course!!
I like the energy to this one, and the vocals sound very haunting and a nice Eastern vibe to them. Like it, looking forward to the finished version :)

Whenever Ricky Mancini slams a track into my review list, am torn in two different directons; flight or fight. In his MD-1 Project personna, his music is often abrasive, disconcerting and hard to get close to. There again in his collaborative effort with Melinda Mohn - the aforementioned Stella Polaris Project - his testosterone levels are somwhat calmed by, presumably, her calming prescence. T
Fourth time up for current MP3 Unsigned darlings Ricky Mancini (aka MD1-Project on the same site) and dulcet toned Melinda Mohn who collectively make up Stella Polaris Project. As it happens, I have been snowed under over the past month with CD's of all shapes and sizes, including Orphans, the latest from this duo. Regular readers will remember the impact this duo have made on me, gett
I bet that Ricky (Mancini) and Melinda (Mohn) known collectively as Stella Polaris Project are probably a bit stunned that, finally, I managed to spell their name right. Couldn't get it for the life of me until I came up with an ingenious (nay cunning) plan. I had the name tattooed on my childrens foreheads because I see them every day so I am not likely to forget. There again, m
Here's a question that's been rattling around my brain for a while; what has twenty fingers and two filthy minds? Well I don't know cos I guess I'm too old to be thinking about it, but I do know such an entity has a name - Stellar Polaris Project. This is the second track I've heard from this duo from MP3 Unsigned comprising of Ricky Mancini (aka MD-1 Project) and Melinda Mohn. A
Regular readers may have noticed that this month, for the first time in a long while, I have managed to snag some tracks from MP3 Unsigned. Digital Juggernaut was the first of these, Stelar Polaris the second. Stelar Polaris are an electronica due featuring Ricky Mancini (which should be a familiar name to long term readers) and Melinda Mohn. Not sure who does what but I gu
Thought this one was gonna be a tough one to review, but I listened to it a few more times and managed to get a handle on how I felt about the track so here goes. I suppose what first strikes you about this pairing is that it shouldn't really work. A deep soulful voice, mixed with challenging jazz/avant-garde chord progressions and whatever else they care to bring to the party. What's equally surp
For those that don't know, Stella Polaris is a collaboration that formed on this site between Ricky Mancini (MD-1 Project) and Melind Mohn (solo). Ricky the producer/nstrumentalist and Melinda the singer/ lyricist who also produces and arranges her own music. A very unique combination that I would have never paired together as he is predominately a trance music
The first thing that your reviewer encounters when embarking upon a review is, of course, the title. And today, dear reader I am faced with a track called “Orphans” and what strikes me immediately is how evocative that title is. So allow me please, a brief digression while I muse on this word. First off, it comes down to us from Greek (orphanos), via Latin (orphanus) and Middle English a
