9 Hours Behind were originally formed in 2001 and went under the name of Bemused. They aimed to bring together a wide variety of influences, Including Radiohead, The Beatles, Muse and Pink Floyd. The primary aim was to encourage a democratic approach to song writing. The original line up consisted of bassist Dave Wilson, Abney Rd guitarist Steve Middleton, Drummer Gary Wilkinson and James Cutts, both formely of Boss Vines, and undertook a series of early performances at Sheffield venues including the Boardwalk, the Grapes and the Classic Rock Bar.
Since those early gigs the band has gone through various changes, including bass players and guitarists, but has retained its eagerness to develop musically and to challenge the status quo. In 2004 the band were joined by ex Mogg bassist Richard Gilliver and entered a new period of growth, despite the loss of drummer Gary Wilkinson who left to play full time with Dead By Friday. The band were recently joined by Paul Gilliver on bass guitar in a temporary capacity while Richard switched to synthesizer to bring a wider range of sounds to this highly original band.
