epic/haunting!
moody and beautiful. excellent work.
Jaw dropping performance! great stuff. Sounds really dark and heavy - makes all the self proclaimed Monsters of Metal sound like a lame boy-band ;
Yes, yes, yes. Very nice. I'm a bit worried bout you though! You're too young to sound so bitter! Just kiddin'. Great stuff.
Back for another listen. Really like this. Great track Catherine. Cheers Rogue
this is utterly beautiful, yet haunting.. the lonnngggggg.. vocals, guitars, scratches.. ahhhhhhhhhh thank you for sharing this.

Wow! What i find, your music is incredible, so out-there, in a distant place. I'd love to hear you and Japanese Sesuire Robots do a collaboration - it would be incredible. Thanks for the listen!

Very good song, Nothing left to say except I enjoyed the listen, thanks! http://www.mp3unsigned.com/showmp3.asp?mp3ID=22157&aid=10636
I love her voice. This song just puts you in a nice place
wow. I was shown this song by Stereo_DNA, and I'm sure glad he had me take a look. Straight from the beginning, I was hooked. I love the guitar, and the other instrument playing at the beginning. As other has commented, your voice is excellent. The feel of this reminds me a lot of Led Zeppelin, when they'd do a little more bluesy track, like When The Levee Breaks. This is really great, I lost count on how many listens I'm on now. Congrats on Artist of the week.
Gorgeous. Love the sound of this song. Wonderful dynamic interpretation! wow :)
. pardon me for asking, but I have to download this song to sing along with.. the sounds travel in and out of existence intertwining within the differing atmospheric textures... ty ! .
beautiful song. Sometimes your voice even reminds me of layne stanley of alice in chains. Nice!
top stuff..
A truly innovative and well produced and performed song. It's always wonderful to hear a song that has a great deal of thought and effort put into it, as this one surely has. Remarkable. Graham

You remind me a lot of PJ Harvey and I see her listed in your influence. Congrats on your no.1
Congrats on number one, hearing the track it's hardly surprising, love the dark feeling, superb sounds, great voice.
WOW No1!!!!!! In such a short time! Somebody knows class! Congrats and kisses!
such a sad song, straight from the start its tugging me heartstrings different style, but an awesome sound all the same, really good stuff congrats on your #1 chart position
This track has a Kate Bush meets Alice In Chains feel to me. Great production. Good voice, and great recording of it. Not to much reverb, just right. Some parts are clipping :( Overall mix sounds just right. Good work.
Brilliant...(like the guitar 'swells!)Very moody. Like the pic. too! good stuff!
you have a fine voice there, very well production i really enjoyed it a lot thank you for sharing :)
Youth's back garden?
Excellent.......the guitar wails set it off a treat. A top track. Bet you your bio photo wasn't taken in Newham or anywhere within a 50-mile radius of Wimbledon.......lol
great vocals real haunting as sinkfish says, I love the feeling you put into it, sounds like you where buzzing with this one, welcome , Nico.
Liked this a lot! Haunting and dark but clean and bluesy. Very nice.
I agree with the comment about delta bluesy...with a nice haunting touch ;)
Beautiful song. Everything about it is just perfect. I wish I could have just half of your talent.
interesting stuff, kind of dark delta bluesy stuff, different to what i expected. the only problem i found is that the track clips a little when your vocals are louder, its a bit harsh on the ears. easily sorted though, good track other than that. love the list of influences too, looking fwd to hearing the silver mt zion inspired stuff!
The bio pic and sound threw me a bit, thought I was dealing with a US country girl! welcome to the site, I like your dark folk (is that a genre!). Look forward to hearing more.

"Possessed of a rare sense of resilience and wonder that recalls Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell, and Joanna Newsom, Davies' delicately contrived but richly evocative material is worth seeking out. " - THE DAILY MIRROR

It's been a really busy month for me: On Friday night I played at the Jazz Cafe in Camden as part of the BBC Electric Proms for which I wore the most ridiculous shoes ever (cue much clutching of prized music man guitar as I stumble up and down the Jazz Cafe's many stairs..... This was a collaboration written especially for the Proms with Riz MC. I've also been in and out of the studio putting the final touches to a track i've written with Nitin Sawhney called "Nothing Ever Dies". All going well, it should be appearing on his album next year ("London Under Sound") along with another one that I haven't written yet! This week I'm mixing some of the tracks from the Paul Draper sessions so that you will finally get to hear them But before you get to hear the fruits of all this labour(!) in a few weeks time I'll be making an appearance at a very special FREE show at the Royal Festival Hall on the Southbank on 13th November as part of my ongoing involvement as an Emerging Artist in Residence at the RFH. The gig will be taking place in the main ballroom from 8pm and promises to be something really special... All the details are below, and remember it's FREE so bring your friends! Hope you can make it xxx --------------------- EAR Present... METRO: Monday 22nd May 2006 "Though some might judge PJ Harvey's finest hour to be the melodic sheen of Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea, and others might say her ultra-raw first two records, the majority of fans would surely cite the feverish folk-metal fusion of 1995's To Bring You My Love. Certainly you'd guess Catherine Anne Davies would agree - the flaming-haired neo folker's first two releases so far, the Songs For The Boy Who Wouldn't Read Rilke EP and the Long Day EP, draw deeply from the same well of darkness as mid-1990s Harvey. In particular, Long Day's first track, Long Year: a creation of baleful force that combines hushed, sinister guitar distortion with a voice that sounds like a lake of black honey. A full-length album is due out on Folkwit in the autumn; for now audineces can slake their thirst with Davies' sporadic gigging, notably a high-profile slot at the ICA's Roots And Shoot's night on June 22. " Andrzej Lukowski
From this week's NME: "If Kate Bush died and went to hell, she might sound like London gothic folk chanteuse Catherine Anne Davies. Or, if Kate came back as a ghost and haunted Regina Spektor until she cried and put a hex on Tori Amos.. Basically what we're trying to say is Catherine is kooky and spooky and very good." It's all a bit of a mystery because no one actually sent them an E.P to review.. so we don't quite know how we got a review..but we did, so maybe we did something right after all.. !
I have a track included on the newly released Folkwit label compilation. The comnpilation can be downloaded for FREE from the label website or you can order the CD for the micro-sum of £2.50 at www.folkwit.biz. The CD has 12 songs by 12 new folk artists, including the BBC Young Folk Musician of the Year Finalist, James Chadwick.
I'm going to be playing a very special show in the New Year at the sumptuous Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush in London on Friday 13th January.
I'm hoping that they are going to let me use their grand piano. Failing that, I can promise a banjo and a ukelelee and a free 2 track CD to the first 30 people who email me their ticketweb ref. codes once you've booked your tickets... Cunning, eh?
You will be able to book tickets in advance at www.ticketweb.co.uk for a spectacularly small £5 (plus booking fee). But as they are not on sale yet, please go to www.myspace.com/catherineannedavies and RSVP to tell us you are coming!!
Now lets just hope I don't electrocute myself live onstage.. (* touches many wooden objects..*)

From this month's Organ: DEMO OF THE WEEK: CATHERINE ANNE DAVIES - A rich warm caressing treat, it felt good from the off, handmade cover, crafted, held together with sensual silk ribbon, handmade grainy paper, crafted block prints and torn ages, it felt so good. The Music lives up to hope of the package, somehow we knew it would. Warm history scars and sensual strings, graceful dark acoustic bows drawn across strings and a gentle haunting yet rather forceful voice - murder ballads, songs of strength, she sounds like she should be dueting with Nick Cave or Rufus Wainright, no, she sounds like she doesn't need anyone, else, just her band and her voice, no room for Nick or Rufus or anyone else, Catherine Anne waits for no one. Slow slow unwinding shimmering warmth and mystery, solace in the warmth and no more tears to cry... www.organart.com
Issue 28 of Blues Matters (www.bluematters.com) sees Catherine featured as their monthly "new artist". Full interview and pictures. The current issue (28) of "Blues Matters" features a full interview and pictures. Below is an extract, taken from the website. You can read the full interview in the magazine, which is available from selected HMV & Virgin stores, or you can order the magazine online at www.bluesmatters.com NEW BLUES (SUPPORTING UNSIGNED BLUES TALENT!) Catherine Anne Davies is in the spotlight this issue… “What unites my music, what glazes them all with a hint of the blues, is that they're all "work-songs". That ethic's there even in the love-songs - you've got to work through your grief and loss when it all goes wrong, and that's where the beauty gets squeezed out. The title for one song, "Why the Sister in Black Works Hardest", comes from a story by Zora Neale Hurston; a plantation version of Pandora's Box. Partly the title's a joke about the band's image , and partly a challenge to anyone who thinks white girls can't sing the blues. Above all, it's a defiant work-song; a big f**k you to everyone who didn't believe I could go it alone.”
