... you asked for it, well here it is! The long anticipated album from the rap phenomenon trio KODA. From Derby to Jersey all the way across to the West coast in Compton California Rico King(Louisville KY) The One (Jersey City NJ) and Sallie B (Compton CA) have teamed up for their first collaborative success. On the way to becoming the most critically acclaimed independent album of the year, their effort in creating this extraordinary piece of work far exceeded the goal they first sought out to accomplish, which was to simply make some music that would break the monotony of repetitive rap songs and replenish the game with groundbreaking, landmark music! The chemistry between them shines brightly throughout the entire album by the arrangement of each composition. From the very first song which was entirely written by The One (MONEYTALKS) to the KODA INTRO, and vigorously moving forward to the powerful club banger BLACKOUT, the team takes hold of your undivided attention compelling you to become a part of each track thereby bringing you deeper into their individual personas. It is very clear the position each member holds within the group. The One portrays cool confidence and conviction through a solid undeniable flow. Labeled by many and respected by all as the quintessential East coat rapper, ONE adapts to each beat perfectly and never leaves an unsatisfied ear after delivering sixteen bars of fire. His solo contribution WE KEEP IT PUMPIN clearly proves that he is untouchable and his number 2 pencil is sharp and ready if you think about testing him. Next up is Sallie B, aka Joker fase which goes to show why he is the wild card. Cut from the cloth of the streets in Compton CA, and quoted and devoted, Sallie Bobba is a M-80 with an extremley short wick. Better yet, an 8.5 on the Richter scale. He's the hood product from the ghetto, the epitome of the word gangsta with a voice that will snatch you up by the neck and lift your feet right out from under you. His aggressive, brash delivery on songs like TRUE 2 THE GAME, and RIGHT NOW where he rips over the choruses and first verses demostrates the powerful tone he possesses. The most self proclaiming song Salle B offers up to the world has got to be the ghetto anthem, THE HOOD BANGER. This is his pledge to the KODA Album. Last but not least is the nucleus of the group. He puts the K in KODA and his name is Rico KIng. Destined to be one of the most respected and recognized voices in music, this mulit-talented entertainer attributes verses, arrangements and choruses that solidify his position in the group. By delivering a style that many have tried but few have been able to achieve, he relys on his southern slang and vocal ability to add diversity and intrigue by corralating rapping and singing. You may catch him lacing a chorus filling it with harmonies one minute and the next he's spitting a sixteen bar verse. The element of surprise is his expertise.

As a whole, the KODA album has enough leverage in it's content to remain street. Yet one can't help but acknowledge the massive commercial appeal it captures by culminating the right tracks with the right artists. This album doesn't even begin to hit the pinnacle of the groups potential yet it still ranks in the category of classic. "Collectivley, we're just touching the surface with what we can do. This is only our first album. Wait until you hear some of the tracks we have for our sophmore release. I"m not gon' even say no more...watch, you'll see." Rico King The best is yet to come and that we know cuz if you didn't know about KODA before, you definitely know who to look out for now. |
