Band History:
Belgian David Vandermeersch (vocals/guitars/piano) and Australian Nick Penfold (vocals/guitars) met on travels in Istanbul, relocating to London. They joined up with Weymouth bred Robert Lane through a newspaper add, along with drummer Andy Adams.
Red Star 11's debut was 26th September 2001 in the Little Backyard Club, London- around 40 friends including the guys from Placebo set them on their way. Further dates at Bull and Gate and the Dublin Castle followed through 2002. The band then retreated to the studio (well..... to Nick’s bedroom) to produce the 11-track demo-album 'Charlie Chaplin' in the later half of 2002.
The guys played with drummer Dee from October 2002 to the end of 2003, before Jon Brooker joined the band full-time in early 2004. Through 2004 Red Star 11 are playing a number of London's high profile venues, including The 12 Bar, The Water Rats, Club Fandango, and The Borderline, to increasing crowds and music industry scouts. In January 2004, the band has recorded 2 new songs (The Lighthouse and In The Garden), for website release only.
Your influences?
Most obviously, from Beatles to Soundgarden, Counting Crows, to Serge Gainsbourg. Music with an edge, avoiding obvious cliche, repetition and unnecessary blind alleys. Anything with passion and emotion, to have character both in a short, sharp burst or a 6 minute journey |
