Second time's the charm - that's what this singer is banking on. J'Wan Yvette has been singing basically all her life. She began performing onstage at the tender age of 12. In the late 80's and early 90's, J'Wan performed with a local duo called Diamond Iz Forever. She went on to perform as a solo artist on the DC/MD club circuit and then landed a spot as a singer and keyboard player for a female gogo band called Ginuine (pronounced the same as the singer "Ginuwine" - but no connection). The band broke up, but did not give up. J'Wan and 2 members of Ginuine hooked up with members of another female gogo band called Royalty. Royalty became one of the most notable all-girl bands in the DC area. They expanded into R&B; as well as gogo. But after about a year, and "artistic differences" as they say, the girls went their seperate ways.

J'Wan went on writing songs and performing again as a solo artist, then took some time out from the business. After some years on the 9 to 5 circuit she realized that music is in her blood, and she couldn't go on without it. So in 2002 she re-entered the business. During her time away from the stage, she studied the business side of things and decided to launch JYMstone Music, LLC - her own production company. Working on a shoestring budget and a dream, she signed her first act - a funky female duo called Stylz A2Z - sisters Rickia and Zsa Zsa from DC. You can catch J'Wan and Stylz performing in the DC area. |
