Renita Kornegay is a singer, songwriter, composer, and musician who has written and composed over 30 songs. She says, “Music is my life. Without music, there is no me!” Her voice is an instrument of praise that communicates in all languages. You may not recognize her name but once you have heard Ms. Kornegay sing, her voice will be forever burned into your mind and soul.
Since the age of five, Renita has possessed an affinity too, and love of music. In the early 1980s, her mother, sister, and she formed a gospel group called “The Stars of Faith,” and routinely performed at churches and gospel venues all over the East Coast. Renita left the group in the early 1990s to attend Mount Olive College in Mount Olive, North Carolina. While at college she continued to experiment and grow in music. Two years later, she joined the United States Army. Although initially assigned to be a heavy equipment operator, Renita’s musical talents soon bought profound changes to her Army career. In 1998 while stationed in Germany, she responded to an advertisement for the Army’s talent search. To her delight, she was selected and spent the next 3 years as a lead vocalist with the US Army Band and Chorus in Europe. She traveled extensively throughout Europe entertaining troops and serving as a ‘Goodwill Ambassador’ for America. Fans were often left speechless and in tears as they listened to the huge, polished voice flow effortlessly from her small frame. In 2000 she won the Europe Apollo Night Talent Contest in two vocal categories—solo and duet. Winning the Apollo Night contest was only one of her many accomplishments while in Europe. By request,
Renita is the mother of 9 year old twin girls whom she loves dearly and constantly dotes over. Her friends and family provide a solid base of support in her life. The songs she writes are about everyday life experiences, emotions (love, happiness, sadness, etc.), success, and failures. Renita is an extremely optimistic person who feels that all roadblocks and barriers are temporary distractions that can easily be overcome by hard work, perseverance, and faith. She quotes, “I know that I am blessed by the talents God gave me and I have an obligation to use them. I know I will Succeed!”
