Oh, one thing I forgot to mention...you don't have to use any of the samples if you don't want to. You can use whatever, however minimal, of the original as you'd like. No points will be deducted (or gained) based on original sample use. I only included them in case you wanted to use an elemnt of the original track in the remix.

Also, if you wanted to change the tempo, that is fine as well.

I have a pretty poor record when it comes to remix comps.  I don't think I've actually finished one yet...but I'm downloading the pack anyway and I'll see if I can twist it to the dark side...

Nice Virus. A darker rendition is a great idea, since the track is so bubbly as it currently stands.

But thankfully, that isn't the cas at all.

And yeah, I was thinking of putting AI up for mixes (may still one day), but your comment on not wanting to remix it made me choose this one instead.

No. By rawness I simply meant sickness. I was trying to find a word people would understand. "Goodness" maybe works.

So do what you will with the track, it won't affect judging how gritty or refined the track is.

Just to say, Atom, that was such a pleasure to work with such emphatic and clean vocals.

And I wasn't really shooting for a humourous sound, but I do hear something very joyful in the rhythm of hiphop, and I suppose I carried that over into the music.

I've heard both the other remixes and I'm amazed at whats been done already.  Tedd-Z's version has to be the hardest (in the nicest possible way) track I've ever heard from him

Valerie's take is also - dare I say this here - unique.  Like everyone else I loved the low horns and the general classical feel to it.  A very different slant on it.

Mine, on the other hand, is what is laughingly referred to as a 'dogs dinner' and - because of that minor flaw - I'm going to call my remix 'Takeaway'.

Not to be a weird creep or anything, but sometimes I listen to my vocals play back acappella when I'm mixing them down, and it gives me a weird euphoric sensation. Like all is right with the world at that moment.

Maybe you had a similar experience, lmao.

Jono, it took me years of learning my equipment inside and out to get the sound I now get. I used to get a horrible sound out of the exact same equipment! It isn't what you got, it's how well you know how to use it...

To everyone, thank you for such good remixes. I love hearing them as they're all so distinct and unique.

Here are a few things I'd like to point out, however:

1) Please remember to log out of the Remix Project log-in when you're done uploading your track. I've noticed some comments under the "Takeover Remix Project", which shouldn't be. At least, they're anonymous. At worst, they can be falsely attributed to me.  So please do your best to remember.

2) Please don't make your remix track the default track. We gotta be fair to everyone.

3) Pay attention to vocal alignment. This is very important! Hip-hop vocals are percussion based, using the voice as a percussion instrument as opposed to a melody instrument. so when you misalign vocals it is like misaligning a drum hit. Which distracts and damages the track, making the vocals sound off beat.

So as a primer for how to align the vocals I included:

The vocals were copied directly out of the project, with beginning silence intact. Basically, if you align the beginning of the vocals with the first bar 00:00:00 time of any 93bpm beat, the vocals will align perfectly. The chorus pieces also have silence, so you can just insert those at 00:00:00 as well, and they will come in on beat and at the exact same time.

Now let's say you want to move the vocals around, You can do the steps outlined above and once they're aligned properly, split the vocal track at the beginning of any bar measure. Then you can move that portion of vocals to the beginning of any other bar measure and they will still be aligned.

If you are changing the tempo of the track then it gets a little trickier. You'll have to align them by ear. But just think of the different words as drum hits and you should be able to visually align the words with the drums.

Hope that helps. Once again, I really love what you guys are doing with the track and this is going to be really hard to judge. (Luckily I'm going to recruit some friends to help with that decision.) So keep working and thank you for making this comp a success!

Feel free to upload a picture of yourself to the image gallery, that way it can be everyone's page.

Also, feel free to recommend yourself as an artist, or recommend anyone else. I'm not tripping on that.

You can also include HTML in your song descriptions, with pictures or what have you.

I just ask that you do not change the artist name, the description, or the main page code. Everything else (recommendations, individual song pages, and images) are fair game.

I hope you guys are having as much fun with this as I am.
