You know what's really sad, about how things work today (not just here on the site, but in the whole world )?

... That people who have been wronged, and who dare to speak up in moral outrage, are painted out to be the bad guys.

The good people, those with decent values, are called upon to be forgiving... which they always are -- that's their way.

I'll tell you, though, it can be a spirit-breaker.

One nasty beastie can easily bench twenty good ones.

The worst part of it all, is that the majority of humankind sits in the middle ground and learns that the safest route is to not care.

More words of wisdom, from someone who has been around:

...sometimes, "turning the other cheek", has a pleasant outcome.

i always choose the not to care option. I hate to get involved with most things in life, so not caring suits me fine

I take exactly the opposite viewpoint from Fragment, and feel diametrically opposed to the 'not my problem'  philosophy. Others' problems are my problems, and the state of the world is essentially my problem.

I worry constantly about events taking place, both her and in the world in general, feeling strongly that the whole planet is on a fast track to absolute hell, and under the control of evil monsters who will stop at nothing to destroy everything around us, and twist the rest to evil, nefarious purpose.

...not that there's a lot I can actually do about the above, but at least I can get it out of my system via ranting about it

Throughout my student years and experimenting with various mental states I realised that perception counts a lot more than reality.

If you are down, you see the world as full of oppressive monsters, threatening life and sanity.

But if you are on a high, you see the world in a better light...its a glorious, beautiful place, the ideal place for us to be.  We live a extrememly priviledged existance, the culmination of thousands of years of terraforming, nation-builiding, culture-forming and general improvements to make our lives a more relaxing, pleasureable and easy existance.  This is on top of billions of years of evolution to make us the most intelligent and ambitious life form of them all.

Where are our real life-threatening problems?  We have hardly any.  We can eat until we are obese or intoxicate ourselves to death for the price of a few hours work.  We can all afford to take some form of transport to travel for long distance.  Diseases are rare compared to a mere century ago and medicine is a huge improvement.  I could go on...

Its easy to overlook all this from inside the rat-race, but step outside and see what we have achieved.

We are the best hope for all life as we know it for getting off this rock and populating space, and I take comfort in knowing that if anyone can do it, we humans can.  On a good day, our achievements defy imagination.

See 'orgasm thread' General Forum for more information about 'having a few pulls'.

The conclusion (if you don't want to plough through it all) is that it's very, very overrated.
