because its not yours. Its no different from stealing someones idea for a novel, or a film or anything else.

Put yourself in the position where your music was your livelihood. Would you like people helping themselves to it and claiming it as their own?

hmmm.........I've just come back from going out.......didn't have any windows open on my computer....come back and this thread (which I didn't look at) is suddenly open on my browser......very odd indeed especially as someone is doing a remix for me at the mo. Can I ask Stew aswell why on my track 'Aint Tellin No Lies' it says its only like a minute and a half when it's four minutes?

Cover versions are actually quite helpful for the unknown artist.  You do need to get the propper license, not only for hard copy print but also for digital download and internet airplay. (they are not expensive though and you would be doing the right thing by the original songwriter)

I did a cover of "Feed Jake" on my last CD and it has driven trafic to my songs that people who were unaware of me have found now. But again you should get the license.  I don't know about all over the world but in the USA you can get them online (usually) through the Harry Fox Agency.
I don't recall the web addy right now, maybe HFA.com

Anyway one good cover tune can be a great marketing tool.

Best to all
