Strides in the Music Industry Impressive (Tuesday, January 04, 2005)
December 9, 2004
By Big Yayo Special to The Clarion-Ledger
I'm proud of the strides my fellow Mississippians have made in the entertainment world in the past few months. I attended the Anthony Hamilton concert here in Jackson last week, and although my seats weren't very good, I still must say I enjoyed the show. M.L., one of the Jackson's up and coming R&B; artists, gave a very impressive show. He performed his hits I Will and Can We Make a Movie, with a little help from Ezra Brown. During his performance, his background dancers proceeded to make an impromptu simulated movie that really got the crowd going. Brown, aka Mr. Music as I like to call him, had a saxophone solo, showing how Mississippi artists come together to make a big show even bigger. Of course, Kem and Hamilton both gave a great show, but the one thing that really made me proud to be an artist from Mississippi was when in the middle of Hamilton's show he brought Kamikaze and Tony B. to the stage. It was good to see a major artist like Hamilton recognize the talent of Kamikaze, a performer who has been holding his own in the rap industry since the early '90s. So to all my fellow entertainers, keep doing what you're doing, because pretty soon the spotlight will be on you.
