As I read through the bio for Encryption Complex before I hit play, I admit it sounded intersesting enough, being a huge fan of Beethoven, I thought, this could be the be all end all of something new, and after listening to it, it still could be.
With this track, I had to listen to it several times, because I had mixed feelings about several things, as I am aware with alot of electronic based music, chaos in the structure is a prerequisite sometimes, I do industrial rock, so I am accustomed to that as well, but the chaos at the beginning almost had me scratching my head, it seemed to create gaps in the track where there needn't be a gap, and I don';t mean stop and go gaps, I mean stop and scratch your head gaps, very well programmed, but it seemd to throw it off a bit for me, but it was short lived, because after the initial chaos, it took a wonderful form.
The Rhodes piano (?) in the middle adds a sensual and soothing touch to
the mix, catching me floating as I listen for the 7th time, and the
overall programming is very well executed. I am not generally a fan of
house or trance music, but this is not quite what I would call house or
trance, has alot more substance than the genre usual.
The production is lacking just a little here and there, but not much, I
think more in the mastering then anywhere else, it does distort in a
couple of places unecessarily, but I do keep in mind artist intent. The
levels seem consistant and clear for the most part, again I feel it
just lacks good mastering.
And finally, I am a bit of a rhythm nut, so that ending piece, where
those drums kick in just does it for me, wonderful drumbeat, great
sound, great mix.
This could be the birth of something potentially new, and I know
that house and trance writers have been mixing in classical for years,
but this is different. Listen and see for yourself.
