Black Circles are new to MP3 Unsigned and have hurled themselves into the arena with an experimental tag. I don't know the exact mathematics to it but its likely experimental is one of the least delved into genres by the average human being as they go shopping in HMV. Unless something pretty weird is going on in our lives we prefer the comfort of repetition, safe comfortable feelings which a lot of popular music echoes and encourages.
Dischordant piano, throbbing speed garage bass tone, menacing shrill distortion and a voice you wouldn't like to be selling you life insurance over the phone - this is deeply unsettling stuff. Sean readily admits his music is created in the middle of the night. His website offers lots more dark flavours and I can recommend you spending half an hour in his company.
The overwhelming feeling this track gives me is one of confinement, suffocation, somehow being restrained underwater. Undeniably it screams fetish; the half whispered vocals are both sensual and threatening. As the piece builds to a cresendo its a relief when it finally dies down because you're sat there wondering where the hell is this going? What bizarre sound effect is going to kick in the scare the crap out of you! Sadly I may have given some of the game away.
If you've seen the film Hellraiser this would perfectly set the scene as a trail. Its not easy listening and you won't dance around the room to it but it will stimulate your hearing. It will most certainly tickle and entice your stirrups and anvils unlike any bog standard dance tune. Using (I believe) Reason to aurally disturb, stock pre-set samples/loops have not been used, a lot of creativity has gone into the structure of the sound. Repeated listens have opened many levels of sound; its an organic music, it pulses and throbs and appears to move towards you. Im definately pleased I was introduced to it.
