The Foreboding (one guy called Jon actually) describe themselves thus on Soundclick 'sort of Leonard Cohen/Nick Drake but without the lyrical brilliance or the musical virtuosity'  Partly true I'd say.  The part that would be true is the musical references to Cohen and Nick Drake.  Lyrically and musically, The Foreboding so obviously displays those influences it would be ridiculous to try and deny it.  So it's probably a good job he doesn't even try.

The part that definitely isn't true is the part about lyrical brilliance and virtuosity because this artist delivers both in equal measure.   The combination of the warm cosy acoustic worldview allied with some eerily famiiar vocals drew me both to Counting The Beats (August 2004) and now to Butterfly.  I have to say that I think the forlorness of Butterfly is probably going to weigh very much in its favour.  It's true that the Leonard Cohen style of bemoaning our fate is not to everyone's taste, this track will definitely appeal to those who do.

The MP3 Unsigned site is a notoriously difficult site to crack and believe me you have to have your musical chops about you to stand out.  It's nigh on impossible to get a straight 10 on their rating system so most of us settle for a nice, tidy 9.5.  Consistently scoring those is the sign - to me anyway - of a major MP3 Unsigned talent and there is no doubt in my mind that The Foreboding is that.  As derivative as the musical style sounds on paper (as it were) it has to be heard to be truly appreciated.  There's a warmth and a depth of humanity to this artists work that draws you in like a blazing fire, comfy slippers and a nice cup of whatever does you good.

Great song, flawlessly delivered, and a Must Have.
