Even those who are not a big fan of Irish folk music would have to admit, Fling
has done a wonderful job on "Streets of Vigo". The overall song structure is
solid. The diversity in sounds maintains listener attention, blending
traditional and contemporary musical instruments. The varying tempo and
enthusiastic delivery puts a smile on most anyone's face. "Streets of Vigo" is
happy, party song. Because there are no lyrics, this song is perfect for just
about any type of celebration.
Melody is simple, which is fine but can sound a bit repetitous, perhaps due
to the tempo causing the time between verses to be short. Changing the "voice"
is a fabulous idea. It is as if each instrument speaks to different people. I
can envision this song played at a wedding with the Master of Ceremony directing
different groups of people to the center of a dance circle with each verse.
Recording quality is excellent. Mixing is great. With so much going on,
hearing the individual instruments shows professional quality. Mastering is
good. However, it doesn't reach through the speakers and grab me as if I
were listening in person.
Because this is a niche song, it is most appealing to fans of Irish folk
music. However, since it is so energetic and technically perfect, any one who
appreciates music and talent can find enjoyment listening to this tune.
Commercial appeal rating of 5 in no way detracts from the potential for this
song. It is, however, not considered "popular" music for which a global
audience will demand rotational radio play.
