Put into the hat by Pidgeman Craig, and first off I have to say, good shout Craig!
I would also like to make it clear to TUMC and all connected with this track that in my opinion, there is not a single, solitary song in the world that it worthy of straight tens.
Anyway, to work!
First thing that grabs you is the nice guitar sound. Not too harsh, not too dull, just depressing enough to give you a good idea of what's to come. This is also a good indicator for the recording quality on the rest of the track which is incredibly well done. My only criticism of that would be that the bass guitar is a bit anonymous and I felt that it should be brought forward just a tiny wee bit to add more depth to the sound. The drums, vocals and piano all sound really good as well. The track is overall very bright and clear, but as previously stated, needs some depth.
Performance wise, nothing much to complain about. Everything seems to be in order on that front. My only gripe is with the high pitched notes in the chorus, which are a little bit wobbly. Get some pitch correcting software on those and you're sorted. Generally the vocal performance is absolutely on the money, excluding the aforementioned falsetto notes.
The song is well arranged and dynamically very interesting. Particularly taking a dynamic step back for the first part of the chorus. A brave step to take, but TUMC have pulled it off, so all credit to them. The rising and falling dynamics never leave you bored, the melody grabs you like a midnight mugger in a dark lane, and the lyrics make you think. Of course having Dawn Sinclair on board for your lyrics is a very smart move.
Simply put, this is a commercially viable track that wouldn't sound out of place on the radio anywhere or on MTV or any other musical media for that matter. It is well performed, well recorded, well written and clever. A particularly good musical endeavour I think.
