First off let me say this is way outside of my comfort zone so I was a little worried before I listened to the track about writing up a review. Anyway, about 5 seconds into the track I had developed an immediate respect for Chickie. There is more substance here than the usual 'chick with a guitar' (excuse the pun!) stuff this genre is often affilicted with.
As a guitarist I was impressed by the accustic melody of the intro (and throughout I might add), this got my attention off the bat. Vocals work well over the clean sections but there are some minor tuning issues in places (possibly due to a doubling effect being slightly delayed).
I was surprised when the rhythm guitar was introduced - quite dirty and distorted, just the way I like it:-) For this track though I might have brought the rhythm guitar down a tad in the mix and added some warmth through post EQ. The vocals over the distorted parts to my ear seem a little low on the scale and could possibly have worked a bit better up an octave or at some other tuning (5th harmony maybe). That's just me though, I've a stickler for odd harmonies and melodies.
Another feather in Chickies cap is the inclusion of some nice blues rock lead guitar. Nice tone and nicely played, had a smidgin of Jimmy Page about it which is no bad thing at all. All in all this track had me listening through to the end and I reckon it has a lot of potential through some minor rework. My guess is you'll be seeing a lot more of Chickie around the site - she is an artist that deserves to be heard.
