I know that all of us musicians feel a sense of loyalty to the first site we made home, and I've mad a few of those over the years I have been on the internet. Coming from a longtime residency on the Usenet MOD forums back in the day (ie 1990's) I was fiercely loyal to my first MP3 sites. Of course that all went tits up when we discovered that our site (MP3.com as was) was an extremely commercial site and not to be trusted. Suffice to say that since then I've been through several sites but settling the last few years on a select few. Like me, Pidgeman started off on MP3 Unsigned only but of late has moved over to Soundclick as well which is a very good thing. If you want exposure - REAL exposure - upload everywhere you can, no matter what loyalty you might feel to your 'home' site. Here endeth the lesson (but look at how many sites I am on)
Over the past year I have become used to Pidgeman's take on rock/pop having reviewed at least eight of his tracks. Most of them getting, by the way, a highly recommended to boost them on their way. Well, I was ever a rock animal and when ol' Pidge is firing on all cylinders its definitely worth a listen. The blues, on the other hand, is a very different story because I love the genre and always have done. Never been able to get the exact feel for it myself so I have enormous respect for musicians who can and do. Conversely I have nothing but scorn for those who try and woefully miss the most important element of the blues: authenticity.
Sleeping With The Blues has more in common with early Eric Clapton and some of the great American blues rock bands than the kind favoured by BB King, Muddy Waters and the like. As such, it's again a most decent listen as I have come to expect from this musician and given that I like all forms of rock this definitely hits the spot. It isn't, however, a keeper for me but not because of anything that Pidgeman is doing wrong, although there are spots in the track where he doesn't quite hit it right. Nope, its all about the tracks longevity. This is a track I would certainly listen to once or twice because the style and content interests me but isn't a standout blues rock track, just a very good one. And that, should you like blues rock, will be more than good enough for a listen to make up your own mind. Very competent blues rock. Recommended.
