Dawn Sinclair will be a very familiar name to most regular users of Mp3Unsigned.  Dawn is a lyricist who has worked with a great many artists on the site, myself included, and in very many different genre's of music. The 'Team', as Dawn likes to call it, on this track consists of Amy Caldwell, Dawn Diamond on guitar and of course Dawn Sinclair providing the lyrics. The mix on this version has been handled by Juri Rosenfeld. These are all very regular members of Dawn's team and have worked together several times in various roles and formations.

After a very nice arpeggiated acoustic intro, which is marred slightly by a lot of hiss on the version I have, Amy's voice enters. With any acoustic song, especially one without any percussion or rhythm track, the song can live or die by the quality of the performances. With this in mind I don't think I can overstate the quality of this vocal performance, it is exceptional.  The tone, phrasing and intonation are all spot on. Amy also sings layered harmonies and these lift the song brilliantly. I have absolutely no reservations in proclaiming the vocals on this track as perfect.

Another important part of most acoustic songs are the lyrics themselves, and this is of course Dawn's own area. This is a love song, and as such is a subject which can be universally understood. The danger area with a love song of course is to come across overly sentimental and 'mushy'. No such danger here though, the lyrics are beautifully crafted and never awkward or pretentious, and are delivered with much sincerity by Amy which is difficult to do if you're not completely comfortable with the words you are singing. Dawn can lend her hand as previously mentioned to pretty much any subject or genre and here she writes lyric's as poetic and professional as you'd expect if you have spent any time listening to the song's on her page.

The structure of the song is great in it's simplicity and the melodies and harmonies throughout make this song very easy on the ear. Certainly, for an acoustic love song is very commercial in essence. There are only a couple of area's where this falls slightly for me. The hissing noise I mentioned at the beginning runs through most of the song and does detract from the overall quality of the track. Also, the guitar solo, whilst melodically fine is a bit mechanical in its delivery, every note has the same attack and this means it loses 'feel' as guitarists would say. The timing of it against the arpeggios is also slightly awkward at times. Possibly the inclusion of some light orchestration or percussion could add more sonic interest for the listener. I mention these points only as a view to creating more commercial appeal in the real world where the sound quality would have to be spot on.

All in all, this is a great song from the 'Team' and for the most part very well performed by all.  The vocals deserve to be highlighted though, as they really are stunning.

Highly rated.
