Next rack up is a track by Tim EP (Digital Jeggernaut) called Electro Robot, a track which I am very familiar with as I commented on it when it was released and also downloaded a remix pack which Tim released containing all of the main elements of the song. I did actually spend quite a bit of time messing about with the samples in Ableton live and became very familiar with the sound. The samples Tim provided were very clean by the way :) So preamble over with what do I think about the track :)
Easy one for me this, as when the track was released it was almost like it had been written for me as it contains virtually every element that makes a track tick for me. First the voice sample which was a bone of contention with a few people at the time I believe, but I fall into the die-hard speak-and-spell-loving brigade, and have used it myself on occasion, to get a clearly pronounced well balance vowel sound on a line, so felt it was perfect for track. Bass is a very smooth but nasty sounding parping patch. nicely mixed on the track, always solid and musical. FX are kept to a minimum, they are used sparingly and when they do come in they are panned perfectly to sit the track. Main arp line in the mids follows a kind off the beat motif which keeps it sounding good in the mix. Lead line is quite diverse, it doesn't repeat but cleverly keeps a similar theme and has a raspy feel that cuts through the mix well. I remember when auditioning the samples I was struck by how cleverly the lead line was used. There's a couple of places a well chosen female vocal sample is used, and when the robot line is slowed down drastically to give a glitchy effect. Drums again were well programmed and diverse with plenty of variety here. Which brings me to the next point, while I was actually messing about with the remix pack a few weeks ago in Ableton, trying to think of a way to remix the track but keep it's flavour, I basically just gave up for the simple reason I really loved the track lol, and thought what is the point trying to fix something that isn't broken. Just really like it just as it is. It's simple, clean, very neatly arranged, avoids repetition, has a a great hook, is well played, and I have listened to it more times than I care to mention.
What would I change ? Well the kick drum is really flabby, has no presence and really sounds crap, I'd change that lol. That's it lol. That was easy :) So nice track Tim, certainly up my street, one of my faves on the site :)
