Melodic Electronica is one of my favourite genres, and this mixture of Melodic Electronica and TripHop certainly floats my boat! Now I'm aware that I should be giving unbiased reviews regardless of genre, but I have my preferences like anyone else!
But enough of that!
This track features the vocal talents of Essence, and her vocals are pretty much the centre-piece of the track! Not the best vocal performance from her, I must admit, but a decent performance nevertheless! The rest of the track is filled up with the drums, bass, and what-not! Of particular note is the awesome-sounding string melody, which is the best part for me! All these parts are mixed well, and the quality is good without being too polished (I like a bit of lo-fi in a track)!
Now onto a small but significant gripe for me! Considering the genre it's in, this could be a bit more adventurous for my ears! There are cut-ups in the drum track, but these are sparse and lack a bit of "randomness"! I would like to hear some cut-ups and processing on the vocals at certain points! It doesn't have to be brutal (that would ruin the track's charm), but this genre cries out for clever programming techniques!
I still like this track and it's certainly a keeper, but I bet some subtle programming could raise it up a level!
Pizza Score: Spicy meatballs! A slight detour from regular pizzas, but not that much of a detour!
