Here's an artist who - like me - divides his time between several forums, although in this particular case I picked this track up over at MP3 Unsigned.com. Other than knowing that The Foreboding is a guy called Jon who just happens to live in Japan I know nothing else about him. I did have the good fortune to review his Counting The Beats track in August of last year and liked it very much, even if it was a) a bit folksy and b) had shades of Leonard Cohen written all over it.

Folk and Leonard Cohen in one sentence is usually enough to give this reviewer the screaming abdabs so it's a good thing that The Foreboding didn't take this too far. Ultimately Counting The Beats went down very well indeed, despite everything and I guess that has to stand this artist in good stead. Certainly I had no problem wanting to hear something else from this quarter, but either this artist is slow when making tracks or - because he's on Japan time - we keep missing each other in the signup periods. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with not wanting a review from me could it? :P

If I remember correctly one of the most impressive things about Counting was the production, as clear and clean as a mountain stream, and Come Rest Your Head carries that excellence forward. As good as anything you are likely to hear in the Real World, The Foreboding's work cannot be faulted on a technical level whatsoever. Therefore, it all comes down to the genre this artist works in. Essentially you are going to love this or hate it - depending on whether something folky does it for you. Like Counting The Beats, Come Rest Your Head is full of excellent content - still with that Leonard Cohen overtone I mentioned before. For my part, I found myself liking this as much as I like Counting The Beats and can recommend it to anyone without a problem. After all, a good song is a good song and this is that - and more.
