Mars, the Red Planet.
Little pinpricks, moving slowly across the landscape, resolve themselves into an exploratory team. They have landed on a Mars vastly different to what all data has alluded too.
Against all expectations, they are wading through a vast plain in a snowstorm of gargantuan proportions.
Each team member, struck dumb by the sheer scale of what they witness, and can only frantically mumble data back to control…
Love or hate Ricky Mancini, his music and production skills (coupled with his intense work ethic) have proven him THE most prolific artist on MP3Unsigned.com.
This artist displays musical ability/talent certainly, but done with flair and panache rarely seen in others.
His vision is rather crystal-clear in all his work, and this one no less. Atonalism is the theme for this track, which winds it way across alien sounding beat patterns, scientific ramblings and eerie waveforms.
The samples lend an air of dry science attaining images that, with each listen, yield more and more of the mystery without losing any in the process.
Yet, it is within the beats that Ricky shows his true talent.
Each part of the drum pattern is clear and mesmerising to an extent that you quickly become lost in the tumbling, cascading rhythm they set. They seem to climb not only up and down, but IN OUT and AROUND the listener! How this is possible, I do not know.
The staggering thing is the drums are PHYSICALLY played, and layered, for this track. Not dragged and dropped thru a sequencer or looped from another song/sample. That in itself is a strong feat of musicianship and indicates why I have given a strong score throughout.
For me, the track has no limitations. This may be due to a lack of experience/knowledge of the genre. Others may feel that the track goes nowhere fast and become bored. Take your pick, this track is most certainly NOT commercial.
John Peel would have taken a liking to it though. His audience would appreciate this experiment in atonalism and self-indulgence.
Inverno Su Marte (Winter On Mars) is a good metaphor for MD-1 Project’s work and a concept in itself.
As an artist, MD-1 Project draws from differing genres and creates its own unique style. This is a rare thing in an age of identikit acts and fashion followers.
In short a leader, not a follower…
