Carol Sue has been my only link to authentic country and western based music since joining this site and as such i need to apologise for the lack of references i have to offer in my review!
Carol's 'Too Tired' was not new to me when i came to listen to it. I had heard it before and remembered it straight away!
This catchy country tune is a homage to the love between a man and his motor cycle, and eventually losing it to his estranged wife who has had enough and decides to take off on it herself!
The lyrics convey this story precisely with some great lines like:
'You've come to what a forty-year old looks forward to in his life
you like your Harley Davidson more than your wife'
Musically, the song is supported by a well paced and full country 'howdown' backing. The music does take a lesser role in this tune however, but that is to let the lyrics and the vocals take the centre stage and keep you with the story.
Carol's vocals are well delivered with an occasional angry growl leading into a few lines! This works really well and does sound like she really means it when she says, 'I'm too tired to fight with you '.
Alltogether a really well put togther 'story' song that is great to listen to. Not a chart topping tune, but a great piece of songwriting.
