Andy wondered if i was up for classical pieces when he submitted this for review! Good news is, yes I am!

I have always loved orchestration, as does everyone if you really think about it. Whes used to it's full scope, 'classical' music fully captures and envokes all the feelings and meaning that modern music strives to recreate in different ways.

Andy's 'The Last Galleon' does just that, the suspension of the chords 'carries' you with it on a journey that is exactly what Andy is wanting you to experience.

The percussive crashes and swells are the ocean, the string melody and chord structures are the length and breadth of the galleon.

A strong melody runs throughout the piece, I can't help but wonder how well this would lead into a more dramatic theme at some point, as part of a larger composistion, as on it's own the revelation doesn't come. Then again Andy has not said if this is part of a larger work or a theme to an ongoing saga... that would complete this.

A last word on the good use of sound effects, a bell sounds and the creacking of the hull can be heard amongst the passages that completes the theme of this nautical inspired piece.

I really enjoyed this and it is just a shame that when casting the scores i will have to take into account the ear of the modern listener and 'commercial' appeal, but then again, this music would fully complement a TV or Film piece and therefore i suppose it has tons of commercial appeal!

Have a listen and let the waves take you...
