MD-1 Project - Giugno Featuring Chris Shaw
...And another track by MD-1 Project that's blown me away a little - this time mainly because of the addition of a saxaphone to a track like this - totally trippy in it's own right and a little disconcerting.
Upon getting to the artists page and hearing the track fire up, I was half expecting some kind of a small saxaphone sample to be repeated over and over again, but what we get is actually an excellently played instrumental piece that fulfills in it's own right and, whilst it shouldn't fit with a tune like this, it does perfectly.
A stroke of mini-genius that should be applauded.
Back to the track, however, and we're hit in the face with some rather nicely programmed and nicely frantic drum lines from the start and it all goes uphill from there. There's plenty of atmosphere and a driving bassline that helps the track to bounce along nicely until that sax kicks in and we're in a whole new world. I haven't heard sax fit into a tune as well as this since, well, since the 80's (that's not a derogatory reference, by the way - The Lost Boys soundtrack is still one of my favourites). The overall sound of this track is spot on too, a wall of sound that I find personally satisfying.
Commercially, this track wouldn't quite fit into any mainstream charts, but that's not what this artist is about and that's fine.
Overall, I found this to be another quality listen from this artist that I'd well recommend to anyone with an ear for non-conformist music of any genre.
