Bleed For You - Steve Wilson
First of all, this is a trememdously commercial track - well written, well produced, well performed, radio friendly and ready for release (even as an mp3 file, this sounds good).
Secondly, Steve's vocals are really good, the feeling is there, the tone is there and his emotions shine through effortlessly.
Production on this track is spot on too, a crisp recording has been made with just the right amount of reverb used as not to let anything drown, yet not too subtle as to make the track too full on and in your face. I can only assume this has been recorded in a professional studio, with a professional producer. If not, then hats off to the artist and I'm filled with respect.
I'm also assuming that Steve wants to build a career with music and it's now I'm feeling that he may have to either develop his style a little more (in what way, I don't know, I'm no vocalist - not very helpful, I know) or become a bit more pushy with promoting with his wares.
There's nothing personal with these comments, but I've heard this kind of style many, many times and performed in much the same way. There are a hell of a lot of excellent singer/songwriters around these days - I would definitely include Steve and his music with them, before it gets too negative - and only a very small percentage of these will break through and get the chance to shine in the public arena (I think arena is a good choice of word, it's a nasty business out there and I believe a saturation point is going to be reached soon - I only hope that Steve can get in there quickly and leave his mark) - it's a difficult ladder to climb indeed.
Content-wise, Bleed For You is an angsty, powerful sounding song, with only acoustic guitar, bass, piano and vocals to drive it along, which it does at a fairly decent lick.
There's nothing to distract from the overall feel of the piece, nothing too simple or nothing too technical. It's perfectly balanced in every way and he should be damn proud to have made this (and the other songs on offer here too).
It's all good, good enough, as I said before, to introduce him to the wider public domain, but, being the type of music it is, is in danger of getting lost in the fog of all the other artists out there.
All I can do now is recommend this to fans of well written, honest music and wish Steve all the best luck in his endeavors.
