Steve from Ditheramb seems to be the chief cook and bottlewasher of this group of talent and it is him that I have got to know as a musician of some quality. We first crossed swords when he asked me to put their track Darkest Hour to Classical music. I have to say at this point I am not a lover of most heavy metal but there are exceptions and what I have heard from this lot certainly changes my mind.
This track is around the 4.50 mark and well worth a listen. There are some subtle changes I would make but then that is me. The intro is very intriguing sounding although the vocals were difficult to hear as they were too far back against the music. The percussion as always is spot on from these guys and after about 0.45, the vocals sound quality improved.
The break into the 'heavy' guitar is sharp and timely as the drums lead you into it with expectation. The vocals were not too bad but again were a little drowned out to the listener I felt.At 2.24 the breakdown in the middle was disjointed and there seemed to be no link.I might have left an extended chord which would have left the listenener hanging in there for the next phase.Again this next phase the vocals were difficult to make out what was being said.2.53 to 3.03 was quality which gently nudges us back towrds the meat of the track.Just prior to this however, I may have added an extended 'echo' to the word 'name' in the line "remember your name" which I feel would have enticed the listener towards the main part again at 3.15 which just oozes energy.
Overall, I think the vocals are the main issue for attention for me.The quality of them are superb but in certain areas they seem to be too far back and need to be enhanced in either volume or a reverb FX maybe. The ending is fine except I would have played a guitar chord on those Toms as they sounded like an afterthought and isolated as if eveyone had gone home a minute before the drummer!!
Anyway that's yer lot and was an honest opinion on a track I enjoyed from a genre I don't!!
