Ditheramb - Euphoria Moody metal is what we're dealing with here and it's obvious from the start that these guys know their stuff. Not only that, they're melodically commercial enough to stand a real chance on actually making it into the larger arena. If I can get a gripe out of the way before I carry on, though, the vocals are generally way too quiet to suit such a powerfully played song, even in the intro they don't push themselves forward like they should. This has spoiled my full enjoyment of a track, reflected in the slightly lower scores in this respect, if only because I can't really tell what the subject matter is within. I like to know what I'm listening to, whether they be romantic, angry, happy, surreal, funny or suicidal words.
The music, on the other hand is professionally played and recorded, top notch even and if they can recreate this tightness and feeling in a live setting, then they're onto a winner. Everything works, from the quiet, moody intro, before crashing straight into the almost physically pounding meat of the song, shades of Pearl Jam and even some of the more melodic sides (Those melodic moments were rare, admittedly, but strangely beautiful when they did crop up) of the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal - talk to your dad, if he likes rock) colouring this tune. It all fills out to be a true pleasure to listen to. It's not difficult to see that Ditheramb are in this for themselves, yet willing enough to want to take their careers in this field further, a chance I truly hope they get to take in the very near future. When I listen to metal, in all it's various guises, I'm looking for that spark, that flame, that burn of creativity and passion that truly pushes a band's music into the psyche. I felt it when I heard Ditheramb. If this style of music is your bag, I can pretty much guarantee you'll love it too.
