Redshirt Theory's Blue Mind in a Red State takes the listener on quite a journey. As he describes it, ths song takes you from pain to letting loose brilliantly. Although the first half of the song went a little long, it does build up the "pain" quite nice to be released halfway through the song. Early on, the synthesized strings (I think) remind me of the music I don't want to hear watching some freaky horror flick. Then as you float over these eerie sounds, some from of the bass begins beating leading in beautifully to the some funky drums that gets my head bobbing. Then just as you think you are about to let loose, a sad and lonely horn comes in, adding to the sadness of the release being withheld one last time before the bass comes back in to get that head bobbing again. A xylophone kicks in a little later and the build begins yet again. Yes, I would be dancing by now. Then a beautiful piano slides in adding to the sad intensity until yes, it's time to move again. Then a mix of both brings the whole thing together.
Redshirt always does an excellent job of keeping me interested with different drumbeats and variances in his melodies without losing the concept of the song. He does an excellent job of taking the audience on a typical bell curve. Building the intensity up and down, up and down until release. He definitely puts into effect a nice push and pull feel throughout the song. Production, as always, is top notch and tight. Listen here while you can before the theory is proven. Nice work A!
