From the very start this song reminded me of Jethro Tull. The mood is very thick, and coupled with the lyrics does indeed bring thoughts of Sailors being taken from their families back in the day. I love how it makes me feel that I'm on a ship, and missing home.
The guitar work is beautiful, yet soft and simple. It settles down perfectly into the background ambience to give way to the lyrics. The flute part that comes and goes sounds a little bit samplish, but still fits with the song - and actually pushes the mood most out of all of the instruments. The bass riffs are nice and soft, to keep the overall sound very smooth.
Finally the lyrics. I almost can't believe how much the singer sounds like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. The lyrical composition tells a story much like Tull's songs tend to do. Although a nasal voice as such would not do so hot commercially today here in America, a few people would really appreciate it. Overall I was very pleased to find music like this being made today, as the most recent similar music I've heard was made in the 70s. I'd give this an 8 out of 10, and have to give kudos for sticking with an old sound.
