Thumper, from MD1 Project, does exactly what it says on the tin. It, er... thumps. A techno blast from the word go, this is mainstream techno (if there is such a thing) with a slight retro feel to it. While admittedly not my genre, I decided to give this track a go after being won over by several other MD1-Project tunes. It's fair to say the Project dip their toes in all kinds of musical waters. There doesn't appear to be a style or genre they haven't tackled with gusto. And that's exaclty what I like about these experimetalists.

As far as Thumper goes, the track is driven along like a steamtrain by an incessant, relentless beat. Accompanied by a sinister synth line, it creates a real sense of unease and eeriness. The synth line itself is classic, instantly memorable and infectious. It'll be buzzing round your head for hours after. I'm a big fan of sampled speech when used in the right doses, and MD1 have it spot on here, even though I struggle to make out what is actually being said! That is a small point howver when you consider thee track is 5 minutes long and I, not the biggest techno fan in the world, didn't find it too long, or get bored with it half way through.

There's a lovely passage about 3 minutes into the tune, which again adds to the suspense and is probabaly the peak of the song. A nice and welcome change of direction, that builds nicely to a rip-roaring finale. As for the production it's fine to my ears, with my only quibble being the unclear sampled speech. It seems a bit too heavy on the reverb, but maybe I;m missing the point there. All in all a superb track.
