People Are Divided  (by Encryption Complex)

I would not normally opt to review this genre. I prefer to do singer song writer type songs. But I promised Encryption Complex I would do one of his songs.

I’m finding this quite difficult, as this genre is a very technical by nature, specialised if you like. As a result I will not go too much into the technical aspects of this track.

I will however comment from the perspective of a lay listener.

The track opens with a very deep base vibrato type hum, I particularly like this effect it sets a mood straight away. This is contrasted by much brighter synth sounds. As with all songs in my opinion you need contrasts to keep the listener interested. And this Andy manages by the bucketful in this track, to keep my interest up and to provide the all-important contrasts.

There is a hint of percussion fading in and out at the start before the main drum “riff” kicks in.  I think the main drum riff could have been faded in there. It blurts in slightly. There was also a little blurt and 15seconds sounded like a glitch.

I think each time the drums come on or off there is this click. Hmmm will ignore for now.

Moving on, there are some lovely panning effects, I love that they give a real sense of movement. This happens throughout the track with different instrumentation. I like that.

The bass sound stops and I really miss it but it comes back, that’s great. Tease the listener, that’s how you do it.

The track continues with different sounds coming in and out bouncing around the head all on top of the bass effect and a very eerie synth sound.

We get to the middle where its like the track breaks down and in comes a few bars of beautiful piano. Then just as quick back with the drums and synth. Then back with our bass hum. All excellent, all leave you wondering what’s next, a true sense of anticipation.

The track starts getting real weird (in a good way) for the second half things are rolling around my head, there’s a sense of urgency. A lot of new drum sounds been introduced and taken away again.

Then another change for the last quarter, a much brighter sound. With samba type percussion taking us out to the ending where the track seems to go into hyper-drive and disappear into outer space.

Overall this is a very well produced piece of music that if you get into you really start to feel the anticipation or the urgency.

There is sadly the technical glitch, when the drums kick in, when I noticed it, it bothered me.

Easily fixed I hope. I do like this track so good marks from me.
