Where do you live and where are you originally from? I live and come from a place called Kilsyth, just east of Glasgow Scotland.
Do you work , full/part time/ self employed? I have a small Joinery business going, and now have both my sons as apprentice tea-makers and ass-wipes
Where do you make your music ? (e.g. studio/bedroom/separate room) and describe the surroundings ? I have my PC and neccesities all set up in my living room, coz its MY living room.......NO KIDS ALLOWED!
When did you first really start getting into music, and what was the first single/album you ever bought with your own cash? I 1st started to play guitar at 8yrs. BY 13 i was playing well, some santana, peter green, jimi,. The 1st actual single i bought was ...errm....`telegram sam`, by T-rex!!. I remember getting the 50p for the bus to town....that INCLUDED the vinyl single AND the bus fare. If i mind correctly...i think i also got a packet o chewits too!
Who were your musical heroes when you were at school? SLADE...........absolutely.....i was mad for the mad bunch...loved em.....used to sit glued to TOTP just to see what Dave Hill the guitarist would be wearing that week, and hopin Noddy Holder had his big hat wi mirrors on it lol!!!!
What was the first gig you ever went to? Jeeezz....... y know i think it was a Hue and Cry gig in Stirling....way back when they were just young pups. I actually didnt, and still dont, do many live gigs. Absolutely HATE open air gigs..........eeeugh....all them over-flowing plastic porta-loos....crap sounds......mud.... rain...cold ....!! gimme the TV coverage anyday
What was the best gig you ever went to? Well....i have to say that every gig i go to seems to surpass the previous one, only coz its fresh. BUt...... STING at glasgow SECC. I was not a fan, but got a free ticket......blew my mind. Then Steely DAn........my all time fav band at same venue.......different class....untouchable musicianship. Stevie wonder just grabbed everyone by the balls for an uninterrupted 3,1/4 hrs.
What would you say were your main strengths musically? I got big ears! lol. I would say that i have a fairly quick learning ability and adapt quickly to a new sound or pattern(all within a more contemporary forum tho). I know i cant physically play as quick as some, but i feel i can put an emotional side to the guitar that allows that instrument to shine a little and to breathe a little.
Looking around you, what would you say was the most encouraging aspects of the music industry at the moment? I like the issue that more and more guitars and pianos are back on mainstream......and that the fad of electronic musical toys of the 80s has now passed its peak. Its really encouraging also to see both electronic and acoustic working more closely nowadays tho to produce a new and dynamic sound overall.
Which track that you have written/created/produced would you say is your best work (to date) ? My favourite of mine.......ermm.......as an instrumental....i enjoyed doing `Inner Workings`.......my accidental fall into an odd tuning....good job i wrote it down....id nvr have found it again lol. BUt, as a song i like simple stuff......so, `Deep water` is a fav....or mibbi `rock in my head`
What would you say most influences/inspires you to write a track, and what is your most regular process in creating a new track ? I just cannot write about NOTHING!! oops....i did just that tho eh in `Rock in my head` lol. NO really......i need inspiration from something thats affected me directly. And it can come from almost anything....i dont sit down and say...`im gonna write about a girl tonight`.....cant do it. I COULD tho (and have done many times) if the girl is real and familiar in some way. I almost always have my guitar in hand......when im sitting relaxing watching telly.....ud laugh, but i have my guitar in my lap. Therefore.........i usually start with a gtr hook, chord pattern, lick, riff....and just build around it. TRouble is.....i got a really bad memory....so i forget the point i started at usually ! lol.
Who or what do you admire most in the current music industry ? I admire Bob Geldof, for his ability to manipulate the minds of the idiotic politicians for someone elses benefit. I greatly abmire Bob Dylan for his on-going ability to galvanise the minds of the non-idiotic masses.....and for his method of tricking us devotees into thinking that he actually can sing!
Who or what do you have most contempt for in the current music industry ? `corn flake packet` bands..!! Like....buy three packets of cereal, and get ur very own `boy band`, complete with 4` No`1 hits. I HATE these people.....they are, for the most part, devoid of all musical ability....and can only smile and flash their arses. grrrrrrrr
On Mp3unsigned, what would you change ? Id put my track at No1
Which artist on mp3unsigned do you most enjoy ? Too many to start a fight with....so, ill say quite a lot.
Iif you were stranded (desert island disks style) and could only ever have 3 tracks to play, which would they be and why ? Bob Dylans `blowin in the wind`....coz that would make it seem worth while being stranded, Elvis`s `old shep`.....well, whats a man without his dog eh, .....erm.........and probly one o rickys, for when that darned boat failed to spot me again and i needed to let off steam(wheres ma wrecking bar)
Same question , but which 1 book and 1 movie ? book......`escape from colditz,uncovered`....movie, Jaws!..........just to stop me trying! lol
What track do you hate most in the world, and why ? ........i refuse to ansr that on the grounds that i could get ostricised!
Throughout history, pick someone that you admire most, and tell us why ? i truly admire my own little 8 yr old girl......for her unending gift for just being happy and smiley ALL THE TIME......wtf......is this kid MINE!!!! amazing person! :)
If you had the time to learn a new instrument, what would it be, and why ? It could only be the piano for me.....id give up my guitar to be able to play that thing. I feel its gotta be the most expressive instrument there is.....the ablity to produce the most amazing variety of sounds, chords, phrases, and emotion...just a brilliant piece of ingenuity
Who (where or what if needs be) would you say are your true musical influences ? As an acoustic player....id have to pin it to 3 ppl.....2 old timers, J.Taylor, and P.Simon, simply among the greatest of player/singer/songwriters.....then, theres my more recent discovery of Tommy Emmanuel(who im goin to see in november in town wooohooo)
If Beethoven were alive today, which genre of music would he be making, and would he be a success? He`d be in electronica..........playing space age stuff.......coz that what the brain tells u too do.......to explore new things...and i reckon he`d be doin that, producing his finest work. I think it would still be sh*te tho....lmaooooo
Car or Bike? bike bike bike bike bike bike bike bike bike bike bike bike wall tree...ooops!
You are allowed to slap 1 politician, who you gonna slap? Awwwww its just gotta be yon fat fk of a lardy ass john blow-up prescott......god id do him right in. U can all go for TB......but leave me the fat whinging skiving leacherous slimeball that is!!!!! Mr P
How much of your day do you spend listening to, creating or thinking about music? about 25hrs....give or take a few.
When was the last time you sat in quiet, and gave yourself time to think? last night when i fell asleep on the chair!
What was your worst fashion disaster? I was born a fashion disaster!..... it was my mums midwife who coined the phrase!
If you could swap places with any artist (music or any other art) , who would you swap with? Id swap with pete townsend....coz he`s sh*t, and they need a good player lol
Are you currently playing live/tooling up to play live/never gonna happen ? I play live regulary, and enjoy it all. Hope to be doin some more soon. Ur never really good at it, till the audience in fronts of u responds to ur actions....good or bad. Its the audience that makes an artist play his best and perform to the max!
