Bonjour....how do you do!...
acoustic version 1 Life...
Bluntman DnB
(Interviewed on Tuesday, August 14, 2007)
Where do you live and where are you originally from?
I live in the city of Philadelphia, born and raised here.

Do you work , full/part time/ self employed?
    I work fulltime

Where do you make your music ? (e.g. studio/bedroom/separate room) and describe the surroundings ?
I'm a bedroom producer, the surroundings of my musical sanctuary are neat & clean, for now. I have a desktop computer with speakers, subs and ear phones. I have a tv and a Xbox 360 up here for when i'm not producing beats. Now all i need is a fridge in my room, so i don't have to keep going downstairs for something to eat.

When did you first really start getting into music, and what was the first single/album you ever bought with your own cash?
Well, i really started to like music when i was about 12. Back then i was in to Hip-hop & Rock music, stuff like Tribe Called Quest , Jay -Z, Def tones and Korn. When i was about 16 i was introduced to Drum & Bass music by a friend. From then on i was hooked to Drum & Bass. I started producing DnB music about a year ago. The first album i bought with my own cash was Roni Size's " In The Mode ". I Still love that cd.

Who were your musical heroes when you were at school?
Roni Size, Tali, Jay-Z, Reid Speed, DieselBoy, Ltj Bukem, and many more...

What was the first gig you ever went to?
Was a Jay-z concert about 5 years ago.

What was the best gig you ever went to?
A Dj Dieselboy party about 2 years ago.

What would you say were your main strengths musically?
I would say that i'm pretty good at putting at tune together and arranging it well. And i can do more than one style of music.

Looking around you, what would you say was the most encouraging aspects of the music industry at the moment?
Well, i would have to say its encouraging to see more independent arist & labels around.

Which track that you have written/created/produced would you say is your best work (to date) ?
My best tune to date is my track called " The Way To Amsterdam ". Just a very chilled out jazzy tune.

What would you say most influences/inspires you to write a track, and what is your most regular process in creating a new track ?
What influences me to write a track is just music, i love music. When i'm making a beat, i can just zone out on whatever is bugging me and just vibe to my music. Making your own music is the biggest high you can give yourself, i love it. My process in making music is sitting down at my computer for about 5 or 6 hours, messing around with beats and sounds that i like . When i think i have a good tune, i arrange it and then put the finishing touches on it. Then after a day of listening to it i realize that what i have just made sounds like total crap and i have to start over again . So, after going through that process about 2 or 3 times, i finally come out with something great ! Iv'e learned that production is a slow, tedious job. But the reward you get for the time spent is worth it.

Who or what do you admire most in the current music industry ?
I admire lots of peeps in the DnB music industry. I admire Dj Flight on the BBC radio show 1 Xtra. A great Dj, iv'e been listening to her show for about 2 years, great liqud DnB mixes. My top two favorite producers in Drum & Bass music are the artists Heist and the artist Makoto. There music is just so fresh and original, the future sounds of Drum & Bass music if ya ask me.

Who or what do you have most contempt for in the current music industry ?
I hate that Drum & Bass music gets no play over here on Philadelphia commercial radio stations. I think DnB in the US is overlooked. I think peeps need more of a varity of music then just the same thing played over and over again. If i hear one more 50 Cent tune i'm gonna go crazy.

On Mp3unsigned, what would you change ?
Not a thing, stew knows what he's doing.

Which artist on mp3unsigned do you most enjoy ?
There's plenty of great DnB and non DnB artist on here. My fav DnB artists on here right now are Dj Essence & Contayjen.

Iif you were stranded (desert island disks style) and could only ever have 3 tracks to play, which would they be and why ?
Thats a hard one, they would have to be... 1. Dj Spice - Lazy Afternoon 2. Dj Heist A.K.A Strider - Sucka Beatz 3. Dj Marky - 25th Floor Because those are the best jams i'm playing right now. But i dont think i would be enjoying them much, if i was stranded on a desert island.

Same question , but which 1 book and 1 movie ?
My fav Movie is Ghost In The Shell 2 - Innocence. Don't have a fav book at the moment because i'm to busy with producing tunes to read them.

What track do you hate most in the world, and why ?
My old track named " Brooklyn Beatz ", because it's the worst tune i've ever made and it took me the longest time to put it together, all for nothing. Makes me sad thinking about it.

Throughout history, pick someone that you admire most, and tell us why ?
Martin Luthur King Jr, because he was one of the greatest peacemakers of that his era.

If you had the time to learn a new instrument, what would it be, and why ?
The guitar, because i wanna be a rockstar . And because i love the sound of it.

Who (where or what if needs be) would you say are your true musical influences ?
That would have to be Roni Size, his music will forever be imprinted in my head. Back in the day he was the greatest thing in DnB for me. His sound of Drum & Bass would melt Rap, Jazz and plenty other genres into great dance music.

If Beethoven were alive today, which genre of music would he be making, and would he be a success?
I think Beethoven would be making Luqid Drum & Bass music. He would use a P4 computer with FL Studio 7. He would be so successful that all the other DnB aritst around the world would marvel at his production skills. He would make so much money from Dj gigs across the globe that Bill Gates money would look like pennys. After selling about 80 billion records world wide he would be forever known as the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Car or Bike?
    Car for sure.

You are allowed to slap 1 politician, who you gonna slap?
I would give a nice hard slap to John Kerry for not winning the 04 presidential election. How did this guy lose !

How much of your day do you spend listening to, creating or thinking about music?
When just listening to other artists music, maybe about 2 to 3 hours a day on my i-pod. When creating my own tunes i easily spend 5 or 6 hours or more when i have the time to.

When was the last time you sat in quiet, and gave yourself time to think?
No time for quiet, i needs me noise!

What was your worst fashion disaster?
    I never have fashion disaster's, i alway's stay fly!

If you could swap places with any artist (music or any other art) , who would you swap with?
If i could swap places with any artist it would have to be Dj Grooverider, he's like the godfather of DnB. Plus his radio show is the sh*t, if you get your tunes played on his show then you must be a hella good producer.

Are you currently playing live/tooling up to play live/never gonna happen ?
No, but when i start to Dj i will play out live, hopefully i'll get my decks sometime this year.
