hi,

the front page always shows the 'all genre' user voted top 20.

how about instead of that (it does tend to be the same songs all the time)  we replace it with randomly shown specific genre user top 20's instead. might get people clicking into songs they might not normally see . generate a bit of traffic onto artists sites?

any thoughts ?

obviously im no coder so no idea how easy/hard this would be

yes the charts are pointless, do away with them and put random songs up.  An idea first concieved by Fudgepacker, who was then thrown under a bus.

maybe it could have user chart of the week and rotate it by genre so each week its shows a specific genre top 20 .  dance, then rock then folk .... whatever.
at the moment its just a pretty much static top 20 and with the reduction last year or so of people listening or rating, no tunes really get enough rates to get into the main list anymore so why not change it ?

Well, the bottom line is the guy who constructed the site has abandoned it, so there will be no change here until it vanishes up its own asshole. Which may or may not take a certain amount of time. That's about the size of it. Such a waste.

was gonna say sommat on them lines myself LOL

don't think there be many changes coming up

the charts have gone from bad to worse of late...can't even get a top 20 every week

the user chart has changed very little in over a year...so yeah on the front page it looks very much like the site has been neglected

What a great idea!  Chart rotation, that is, though metal underpants is certainly a fashion statement worth considering in certain social situations.

Posting the genres to be featured a month ahead of time might even encourage some of us here to try doing something new.  I could see where that would be good for some laughs along the lines of tv programs like "Dancing with the Stars", and might result is some very interesting performances.  Who wouldn't check out Nikjam and Meena doing a blues number, Essence a country song, or Bad Love Junkie's take on electronica?  Those are just three possibilities off the top of my head, my imagination could play this game all day...

Well, going back about three years (three years! my god). I did suggest to Stew that in order that guests and users could be encouraged to enjoy the full meats on the bone at mp3 unsigned we could replace the front end, charts etc with 20 or so random artists, much like you see one of everytime you view the front-end. Without quoting because it wouldn't be accurate, Stewpot said that it would hammer the engine/database of the site (which I took to mean slowing it down), and that the charts would stay because it was better than no chart and it was the best thing compared to other things that we also didn't have and wouldn't get. I always got the impression that Stew loved his charts, it is the first thing you see when you load up the site. I loved the charts when I was younger, I used to hang on every word on a Sunday evening on Radio 1 wondering if Garry Glitter was going to fly in at number 1. Quite a feat in those days. But then I went off the pop charts because things I liked never ever got into them anymore.... sorry, waffling.

I disagreed but we all have views, no biggy, views on the site were invited and that was mine, amoungst a couple of others that were taken up. See the search artists influences? that was my idea Approve [smug face] The motivation behind the site was good, the initial execution was good, the join-up was good.... then.... the rudder fell off.

Im concerned for people who have dished up £25 / $50 worth of VIP lately or indeed over the course of the last 12 months, because from what I've seen and heard, if you get a response from the site its from a volunteer admin bod who have only limited super powers. I would ask for a refund. If the site is still taking money from people then it should be stated somewhere that this is a non-evolving web site just waiting to vanish.

with stew not showing his face for such a long time... it don't really look good.
but what I did know a wile back...was that lots of vip's still hadn't renewed there subscriptions...leaving stew in a bit of a position... weather to make them back as freebies..or keep them @ a cost to himself....i'd imagine that was something hard 2 decide.

I think he disconnected himself from the boards... to try and make his decision making a bit  easier...and totally forgot about the site...hey who knows he maybe having so much fun hes forgot about us LOL thing is the site is fully functional with out him...so other than the occasional updates... the site is still running and running worry free...he did put a few admin in place... some of them I would never have imagined...one the reasons why I think stew as given up hope if i'm honest... was thinking of giving stew a ring...but to be fair its none of my buisness
