Hip-Hop is still a youth movement. Throughout the country, the biggest Hip-Hop celebrities tend to be in their early twenties. In the Pacific Northwest Hip-Hop is still trying to break through to the national stage, especially in cities outside of Seattle. This brings us to Dooney, real name Brandon Oster Jr. Dooney is a Tacoma Native and he is an upcoming young Tacoma Hip-Hop talent, reaching multiple ethnic groups due to his mixed nationality.
Dooney is currently signed to Tacoma label Eyes On the Prize, which works with Northwest artists and helps them push their content via all social media platforms. The label started with artist Eddie B, and was able to help him attain 22,000 views on his video, “Ultimatum” (https://youtu.be/Cou8dt82V3k) with his "Dont Need Me But Want Me'' album reaching over 230k streams, plays and views, since its release date throughout Social Media outlets.
Dooney has the current Hip-Hop look on lock. Think about the main young Hip-Hop artists currently in the national rotation right now. They all are of mixed ethnicities, they are all young, and they all have their own colorful look. They do not dress like a typical New York Hip-Hopper from Brooklyn. They do not look like a stereotypical rapper from Miami. Some of them just look like a young kid from anyone’s high school. Dooney, with his mixed heritage, fits in quite well.
His single “Bad News” and is available on YouTube, (https://youtu.be/p6UE-r7xQl). “Bad News” has a slow organic growth happening. The song just debuted last month on SoundCloud (https://soundcloud.com/eyesontheprizeent/dooney-bad-news) and already has over 3,000 views. However, it is clear that these are actual views and nothing the label paid for. There are 62 likes and 0 dislikes. 0 dislikes is almost unheard of.
What sets Dooney apart from these other popcorn young rappers is his flow and content. He still raps. There is no mumbling going on. His delivery is clear and strong. He writes a good song. There are tight verses and proper choruses. It is classic struggle rap. Topics include poverty, living in the ghetto, not having enough, and frustration with his current spot in life. He keeps it very real and sincere. He talks about pain, about being broke, about receiving bad news, about living in a cramped room in a small apartment using these as life lessons to overcome and work to make things happen, from Struggle 2 Bubble. The pianos and looped singing on the chorus give the song a sad, melancholy vibe which juxtaposes his flows about overcoming his struggles. It makes for a very powerful debut!
This highly anticipated project by Dooney will be released mid JUNE 2018
