Against the grain(2012 comp entry)
Quite a busy track for ambient. Nice ambient tones. Cool vocal :) GL in the comp :) Peace, Ricky
ambient and a bit chill out...you got your own style...vocals are cool with this track..i will download it ! ps: thanks for your kind words but i really think my music ))=
Hi John, Can't say why I haven't been around to this track before now, but here I listen ;) What I hear is wondrously ambient, lots of electronica, but all carried to a defined rhythm carried by the beats and that smooth bass. A beautiful tune drifting along. Glad this went into the comp. Liked the break at 5m with the guitars playful and panned...then the big ambient synths, nice and wide...the sizzle descending at 6:35...lots to enjoy. (btw...I struggled with the vocals too...tried a variety of eq as you suggested...fantastic as is though )...Thumbs!
Great track, nice build up and big pads. Good guitar in here also. I also think the vocs have to come up a pinch. Nice to see a fellow Scot on here. Thanks for your comments on my tracks. Easy thumbs on this one.
I like the beats rising up on the intro - nice and crisp - like the mellow trippy guitar sound and the twittering synth riffs. Vocal added another most welcome layer. I used to listen to quite a bit of this type of stuff in the early to mid 90s - this track reminds me of that time in many ways. Excellent work Silo.
I mix on headphones too however I find a good tip when mixing on headphones is to keep the volume low, if all the instruments/samples sound clear and smooth at a low volume chances are it'll sound good when cranked up a bit, providing you've eq'd each instrument according to its position on the note scale. This one was a first for me in terms of style and frequency ranges and was a bit of a struggle, I plan to re work it when I have computer with a bit more beef
This is a very nice tune, although i agree with Malcolm Gales the vocals are drowned slightly, however i am listening through headphones, so it may sound different on a stereo. I always suffer the other way around, my tunes never sound as good on a stereo, because i mix on headphones. Very nice tune though, and loving the vibe. You have my vote!
vocal sound fine on my stereo and others ive tested it on mate, might be your eq settings
Lovely track, nice sounds and has a quality feel, i just wish the vocals were clearer so i can hear the words. Good work. Thumb! Mal.
Sounds perfect to me, a brilliant chill song, love it. Gibbo
Liked the indie drums and the trippy psychedelic guitar riff - vocals added another nice layer - lots going on in the mix and production is mighty fine. Nice drop down around the 5min mark and liked the way the track slowly builds up again.Really enjoyed listening to this. Thumbs. James
Well I think your breakdown was in a good cause. Love the miltitary drums and the dreamy vocals. I can imagine some late nightclub swaying going on to this. I enjoyed its wander off at 5, the alien space ship landing and then the final kick in. An excellent listen. Love Wednesday x
WOW, Mate this is simply beautiful, what more can i say, top track! much respect : )
My name is john callaghan i have been mixing using ableton live 8 for about a year now i had a daw many years ago when i was just a lad but for whatever reason i lost interest in my music. I don't try and make any particular style or genre i just start mixing and see where it heads i find classification of musical style restricts your creativity. I am however fond of deep progressive styles of music anything from downtempo ambient styles to some good ol house. when i first started mixing again i was using mulab but i felt a bit resrticted on it so i splashed out and got myself ableton live wich has really opened doors creativley.I'm currently on my fifth track and have four ready to upload. the first few tracks i have produced are a bit like trance of the late 90's early 2000's. I'm good friends with another artist on here called elektric surgery we have known each other since primary school and are currently collaberating on a few projects. He has also remixed one of my tracks so keep your ears ready. I'm hoping to get into college in january to study music and sound production while i'm doing well with my music and seem to have a bit of a natural flair for it i know i have much to learn so have listen and give me your feedback!!
