ONOFFON The All Music Guide - ONOFFON Biography - Written by Stanton Swihart, AMG Expert Reviewer "The music of southern Californian band ONOFFON is hard to categorize, but easy to listen to (which is not to say this is easy listening by any means). Their brand of rock combines elements of progressive rock with straight jazz. You can hear the influence of the cool jazz of the '50s west coast players in their music, as well as the complexity of bands such as Gentle Giant and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, influences the band readily admit to. Von Babasin (bass, vocals, keyboards; son of the '40s and '50s jazz bassist/cellist Harry Babasin, whose Nocturne Records contributed significantly to west coast jazz) and Dave Goode (drums, percussion) had played together for over a decade before meeting Don Lake (guitars, vocals, harmonica) and forming ONOFFON around 1996. Everything about their music, from composing to playing to pressing the CD is controlled by the band."
We are currently on more than 3,000 websites around the world and can be found on such industry respected websites as The All Music Guide, The Muze, CD Baby, iTunes, EMusic, BroadJam, TowerRecords, Amazon, and many others. On the original Mp3.com, we had amassed more than 157,000 plays on our page and charted a handful of genre #1's, with "Mardi Gras" being our most successful - it was featured on their front page in Feb. 2003, charting as the #1 jazz song on the site, above Al DiMeola and Norah Jones just before she won five Grammys. It peaked at #15 on their overall Top 40 - next to people like Madonna, Faith Hill and Dave Matthews.
