Hailing from West Fife,The Motion produce powerful guitar driven indie rock, with anthemic sing-along choruses. The band formed in November 2002 & after several changes in personnel, believe that they are on the way to achieving the sound that they strive to achieve.
Front man & co-song writer James Dick was once the enigmatic singer/songwriter for Cousins Lane & is no stranger to the live music scene. Together with brother, Bassist & co-songwriter - George, ( formerly “Chase” & “Sinecure” ) discussions began with Darrell Latimer (“Chase”) to recruit other band members & produce a sound that appealed to the revelers of the local scene.
After several months of playing with other drummers & guitarists, the 3 founder members found their new lead guitarist. Kyle Farrell. Stuart Condie joined the band as the new drummer.
After a busy year consisting of writing, rehearsing & a heavy gigging schedule, things began to grind to a halt & there was a desperate burst of energy needed to create the feeling that was sadly missed in the band. With a headline slot at King Tuts Wah Wah Hut approaching, the band decided a change in personell was needed.
After a few alcohol fuelled discussions, Darrell, George & James - the founder members all agreed on going back to the drawing board & asked the original members if they fancied a jam for old times sake. Gladly they agreed, and in new found practise rooms the band got to work on developing the sound that they strive to achieve. After 2 weeks of solid rehearsing, sharing ideas & implimenting the keyboard/hammond ideas from "The Riddell'r" the lads felt as though they were back to their best & 100% ready for the forthcoming gig at Tuts.
The rest, so they say - "is history"
The Motion plan to get back into the studio early 2005. The band have made alot of progress & riding high on the back of support slots with Space & Proud Mary, the future is looking brighter with the possibility of a full UK tour with Proud Mary in March 2005.
Working closely with promoter Tom Wilson ( formerly Charlatans - Making Time & Stone Roses), the band have adopted the willingness to play any venue with a view to gaining as much exposure as possible.
With huge aspirations & a very focused ambition for the future, the band are currently rehearsing new & old material with a view to generating record label interest.
