Tony Segner paints lush landscapes with his music. His songs are simple yet multifarious, progressive and at the same time melodic, new and fresh yet somehow hauntingly familiar. Lyrics offer insight, emotions suddenly erupt, melodies soar. You sing along even though you've never heard the song before.Tony writes from a perspective of emotional dissonance, of transcendence and with a wisdom beyond his age.
An Indiana native, Tony has worked both inside and outside of the local music scene from playing in ‘bar bands’ to touring the Midwest to playing shows with the likes of Gary Richrath and Dave Frazier. After completing his home studio in the spring, Tony has been hard at work recording and mixing songs for his upcoming release currently titled ‘Plan B’.
“This music has to get out.” Tony remarks about the new project. “The people need to hear what I have to offer and I need to share all this music that’s going on in my head. Whether that means major distribution or handing the disks out one at a time, that’s what we’ll do.”
Aside from writing and recording all the songs, Tony also plays all the instruments on 'Plan B'. He has this to say about the experience: "One one hand, it's easy to do because you know exactly what you want each instrument to sound like and how each part was written. On the other hand, you miss out on a lot of the chemistry that musicians share when working together." When asked about his jack-of-all-trades approach he said: "I'm a guitarist at heart. But all instruments hold a special magic for me. Early on I decided I wanted to understand how each instrument affected me and what emotions it could inspire. Now I'm on the neverending quest to understand how each instrument contributes to the overall sound of a song and how I can use them to share the soul of my music with others."
"Drums are tricky." Tony adds with a grin. "I'm not a terribly good drummer, so don't expect any fancy drum solos on this album."
