WEAK13: Band bio *************************** Weak13 hail from a 13-letter town called 'Kidderminster' in a 13-letter country (United Kingdom) and was created by 'Nick J.Townsend'. The music has swept the underground since it's birth 13 weeks before the millenium and will do so for ever more. This is a band that will not stop. Its mission is to exist and serve the public. Weak13 is NOT a record-label manufactured band. It is designed by one man who with his close friends play the music that the people want to hear. Welcome to WEAK13...... WEAK13: The music *************************** Weak13 use a variety of strange low-guitar tunings, unorthadox riffs and dark sounds for every song. Every Weak13 song is different. The lyrics written by Nick J.Townsend are always filled with subliminal messeges, personal experiences and harsh reality, always taking full advantage of poetic freedom. No subject is out of bounds. Weak13 make sure the music is as free-sounding as possible, often doing recordings in one-take in order to captue their live sound. In some cases audio mistakes are purposely left in on the final mix of Weak13 recordings, Nick J.Townsend often preferes out-of-tune-parts to make a song more to his liking, leaving in bits that most artists wouln't dare do. Fan favourites such as 'I Name Myself', 'When U say When', 'Death Machine', Kind To Be Cruel', 'Prouder Than U' and 'The All Seeing I' have all created controversy and aclaim within the hearts and minds of many for different reasons. A Weak13 recording is always deep in meaning and thought provoking
Weak13 first hit the music scene at the later half of the 20th Century. When all around were preparing for the millenium - Nick J.Townsend was creating the music which became Weak13. Nick J.Townsend left art college and threw himself into music. Nick is a self taught guitarist and singer songwriter who had a very unusual and somewhat difficult childhood. Music was the one thing that would keep him sane throughout his school days, he never to begin with saw himself as a musician and had hoped to be noticed someday as a cartoonist/illustraitor, but after picking up the guitar decided that he needed to expand his art musically. After joining a few bands Nick decided years later to create his own and called it Weak13. He first created all the music on a drum machine (BOSS DR5) with the intention of playing guitar and singing Live on his own, but Nick attracted musicians like a magnet and within no time the first line-up for Weak13 was created which consisted of 'Nick J.Townsend' (Guitars/Vocals/drum machine), J.Talylor (Guitar) and Anna Clark (Bass). Many musicians have come and gone in Weak13 for various reasons but Nick J.Townsend from day one has always written the music - that's the deal. Nick always knew that other musicians could be unreliable and always stamped his authority on the music. "It's not about being selfish, it's about giving fans a band that won't stop making music and I won't stop unlike others who have, i've seen fans devastated by a band going their seperate ways, well i'm a constant and that gives the Weak13 fans a gaurantee". What makes Weak13 intresting to many is the vast ammount of styles ranging from grunge, industrial metal, death metal, rap metal, rock, blues, metal, punk and thrash. Nick J.Townsend has become a multi-talented musician able to adapt to most situations that await Weak13. WEAK13 has played live with: Skindred, Strapping Young Lad, Hostile, Slab, Brawl The Harpies, Godsize, Burnt, Long Time Dead, Hollow, Groove Sadistic, Celticia, NeutronTears, Vert, King Rich, The Penitraitors, Otis Coyote, H8 Target, Sreamline, Lopht, Ten Second Rule, Serpion, Dissolution, Malevolent Aspect, plus hundreds of bands from the UK underground. Although Nick J.Townsend writes all the songs and takes time to ensure that Weak13 sound like his vision he also is an eccentric and fantastic Live performer on stage, when Weak13 play live Nick insists his band members go through intense training to able to master improvisation, jaming within a song and total confidence. The members who make it become stronger for it. Xander and Shell joined Weak13 in 2006, Nick spent a year with them in a basement jamming and training them for Weak13. Xander was already a great riff writer & performer and had previously been in a few bands. Nick had noticed his passion and enthusiasm when Xanders old band had supported him in the past. Nick stated: "the biggest mistake they made was getting rid of him". The second biggest mistake Xanders previous band made was sacking their keyboard player (Shell) who went on to learn bass guitar and is now inspiring female musicians from all around the world. Once making sure that the guitars & bass were to Nick's liking a campaign was implemented to find a drummer fearless enough to join Weak13. Nick stated: "I was looking for honesty and compassion in a musician, when I heard our now current drummer Rob Hodgson play I was also listening to what he had to say after playing.....that's always important". Rob joined Weak13 in April 2007. Since joining Rob has gone from strength to strength and has soon become a very popular member of Weak13 and a great player. Many Americans are becoming aware of Weak13 thanks to the support of many radio stations that span the USA including 'Don After Dark' (TEXAS), Scar Tissue Radio (COLORADO). Interviewed by 'Powerhouserock' (2007), featured on 'Rockstars glued' (2007). At the moment the main areas where Weak13 is most popular in America are NEW YORK, KENTUCKY, TEXAS, FLORIDA, LAS VEGAS, SAN FRANCISCO and LOS ANGELES. Plans are being made for Weak13 to play a series of shows in America in 2008. WEAK13 has inspired bands from all across the world, received fan mail from over 37 countries, organised their own gigs and events and helped manage many of the bands in the underground that have created the music scene, and done everything it has without a record label. Fans from Greece, France, Germany, Turkey, Sweeden, Japan and many more countries are listening to and downloading Weak13
