from a city called this the band started off in the summer of 2002 when jason danby and phil morgan were making lots of musical noise in jasons bedroom.they wrote a few songs then in september that year found friends from school david park and carl halligan to join the band.the line-up was then, jason=lead guitar, phil=bass guitar, carl halligan=rythm guitar, david park=drums.Under the name YAKISOBA the band went on practicing at school break times playin some of there songs and a few finch and blink 182 songs. They then got thier 1st gig at the school with alternative exit and starphanny.the gig went totally wrong due to crap speakers and amps and it didnt sound good at all so the band decided to split up and there songs were never to be played again until.....
August 2003 when Jason approached Phil and Carl and asked to get the band back together, they both agreed without hesitation, so then they asked Dave to be the drummer again and he also agreed. Now with all the hi hopes the band needed a new name and after a summer in Germany Jason had thought of the name From A City Called This, and after telling Carl and Phil they really liked it so there it was they had a second hance at this band and now they were called “From A City Called This”, A new name and totally new songs. The and started intense practising in January 2004 at the local bar with a set list of 6 (2 covers and 4 originals) With songs called “Phils song” "American girls 10-1 English girls loose” and taken this fall” the band was ready for their first gig. Unfortunately David started to become very unreliable due to girlfriends and college so we needed a new drummer but the search lasted less than 2 days when Jason discussed with Carl and Phil about having Matthew Cowey as the new drummer.this is when the band actually started getting successful with the new line-up, phil-bass/vocals, jason-leadguitar/vocals, matty c -drums and carl-rythm guitar/vocals.Over the first two months of practising the band became closer friends and much humour was brought into the band.New songs were being wrote and by the of the start of the third month of Intense practising the band had 7 original songs and that month it was Jason's birthday, and he wanted bands to play at his party but most of all he wanted “From A City Called This” to headline, this would be their official first gig, and everyone in the band was really excited and the 25th of march 2004 became a calendar date for the band, Their first chance to
shine. but some half of the band was too drunk too play it went wrong but they still had a laugh and it was a cool night.but the 2nd gig at the head of steam on april 14th was the best gig ever.then the band had lots of gigs in newcastle and then went into the recordng studio in may 2004 to record 7 songs titled ."10-1,american girls, english girls, lose" ,"taken this fall". phils song"."only knights ride horses". "too close, too far." which went on there self titled e.p and "jaded from behind"and"gods best design" as bonus tracks. then sold more then 90 copys at 2 gigs selling them for £3 each. the band went on going through ups and downs and did a battle of the bands held in newcastle on 28th july.they got through the 1st round and were very happy and excited.but unfortunately did not get through the second round facing brilliant oppositions but won the crowd vote so that made us quite happy but at the end of the day it was up to the judges. Newcastle has alot of bands, but none quite like the catchyness of From A City Called This. Fueling from eachother's energy on stage, this band is sure as hell to make u go home with a smile on your face!and if you arent bopping your head to the music then you must be going crazy with singer/songwriter Jason, as his live antics are sure to make u wanna join in with the fun! FACCT are not a band to be missed! Look out world, this city is taking over!
