We are a group of musicians and singers who minister at Saint Augustine’s Church in Milton Keynes. Our musicians play a variety of instruments including acoustic guitar, bass guitar, flute, clarinet, recorder, keyboard and percussion.
There has been a choir at the church since the 1980s but the music group in its present form started in 1996. The group has grown since then as new people have joined the parish, many attracted by the music.
The group provides music for the 11 o’clock mass on Sunday mornings, for holy days of obligation and parish celebrations. Saint Augustine’s parish recently celebrated its 25-year jubilee for which the group recorded our most recent CD, Magnificat. Some of our members have written original songs and psalm settings and these are used regularly in our ministry.
Our aim is to help our parishioners to pray and to draw them closer to God through our music. We play a range of music, from traditional hymns to contemporary Christian songs and have many different influences, especially CJM, Marty Haugen and Bernadette Farrell. All glory must go to God, for it is Him we strive to serve in our ministry.
