Jo was born in Belgium to Sicilian parents Jo is the middle child of five children. He was brought up in an small town called Liège in the south east of Belgium. When Jo was growing up his father (Salvatore Lentini) was an operetta singer. Jo would secretly watch his father give lessons to his older siblings, wishing his father would let him join in. His father thought he was too young to learn. Unfortunately due to personal tragedy Jo's father decided to give up the profession before Jo was old enough to learn. Jo sees his father as a very big influence. His ambition is to succeed and to make his father proud. He wants to fulfil his father's dreams for him. All the while Jo's mother (Giuseppa Lentini) worked hard to raise her family well. She is a devoted and loving mother. She instilled a very strong work ethic in Jo, giving him the strength to follow his dreams.
At the age of 16 Jo proved that music was in his blood when he wrote and recorded his first song "believe in yourself". This was the start of a life long addiction to writing and performing. Jo realised he would have to make a living so he decided to study accounting in Belgium, but always dreamt of being a singer. and over the years it has been a driving force in his life, a dream to be realised. He has worked with various musicians over the years.
In 2002 Jo took part in the Endemol produced TV show, "Star Academy", the Belgium equivalent of the UK’s "Fame Academy". The show was broadcast by Belgium’s RTL TVi TV Network in partnership with national radio station, Radio Contact. Shining from the outset, Jo was chosen out of some 5000 entries to be one of the final 100 contestants. While not sure he would make it though the initial selection process, let alone be chosen to enter the competition, Jo finally made it through to the third round of auditions before leaving the show having gained a sizable percentage of the phone-in vote. Star Academy gave Jo a significant opportunity to experience first hand the rigours of the Industry and gain some valuable experience in front of the TV cameras. And also provided him with some small degree of national recognition for his performances. See the media page for a video clip.
In the winter of 2004 Jo decided to move to London to follow his dream. He realised that if he wanted to realise his dream he would have to sacrifice a lot. He immediately started looking for musicians and producers to work with.
Whilst music has always been his passion, Jo's family is very important to him, he often travels back to Belgium to visit them. His parents are a very big influence on him and it is his ambition to become a global success to make his parents proud.
Jo's whole life has been headed towards this. He is determined to live his dream. He knows his destiny is to perform. He is truly alive when he sings. It is a true gift to hear his beautiful voice.
Jo's story is a testament to us all that anything is possible if you want it badly enough, the dreamer has to work hard for his dreams to come true.
